Sure, but until they have a population of a few millions, democracy wouldn't be suitable. If population double in 8 months, what legitimacy would have a leader that was elected when less the half of his population was here?

the fact he knows what hes doing after 8 months? if people feel like they can make a difference then things will go more smoothly.


besides, im only suggesting the democracy would be implamented in say, 3 trips maybe 4. to have it at the very first trip would just get in the way of operations to make the place habitable by humans.

Yes. Moreover, colonists would know what they're getting into. They know that by emigrating know, they're forfeiting some civil rights for a few years.

Forfeiting their civil rights is a bit strong. They will still have freedom, but they must know that these are small colonies - and not a self-governing state, at least not yet. I've read my histories, and the Saturn moon colonies were a political mess after they gained sovereignty too soon. We should make sure that they remain a colony of our system until they are fully established and stable, and at that point we can grant them self-governance.

Do we really want to grant self-governance to our only colony in another system? I think we can grant some powers to the governor, but not total autonomy.

It was agreed for our earliest colonies on large asteroids that they are allowed the right to either officially become part of any nation they please or to become their own 'free colony' that is tied to the human government in general. Changeing those laws now would be a long process that would only deley our colonization.
