It requires blasting your way out of a gravity well when you want to go somewhere. Canada supports orbital habitats. Banks Orbitals, for instance.

We don't exactly know powerful the gravity well of any possible planets are anyway. Not to mention we've a fair amout of technology to improve the efficiency of ground-to-orbit transports.

Planets are inefficient. You could break down the Earth to get enough material numerous Banks Orbitals, each with surface area of Earth. It is inevitable that civilization will move away from planets, if they wish to survive.

And the energy to breakthe earth up. Not to mention the ecosystems as well.

The Ecosystems could be transfered to the Orbitals.

At what cost. And also consider agricultral capabilities.

The resulting habitats would have a combined habital, and, more importantly, arable, (IE farm-able) surface area greater than that of Earth.

Gravity would be provided by rotating the habitats.

Mass, not gravity.

It would depend on how many habitats were made.

And what about the fuel and time needed to set up a proper space habitat with no infrastructure?!

It would be a gradual proccess, only started once we have the infrastructure.

Not to mention the political reprocussions. And how would we transport the amount of gas needed for a large population.

The CoS fully supports the AI rights of Canada, and point out how WE have had AI equal rights for decades and how evryone else is a backwater.

The CoS would like to suggest the AI for the ship is housed in an independent body, but is given control of the ship over wireless connections onboard. This is to make the AI capable of ensuring it's own survival if the ship is damaged.

The Cos aslo denies the rumors that some of our members have begun building independant spacraft, the material importnts were for an unrelated project.

((OOC knowledge: the CoS starts building several unmanned interstellar probes in secret.))

((Fun facts about the CoS: The CoS is a lose alliance of several thousand independent states, and as an organization evolved form the seasteading institute. While the typical member is a single ocean based city, many other smaller nations are members; orbitals, smaller vessels, a few multi city seasteads, and even a nation of AIs with no offline presence. An immense variety of systems of goverment controls the varius member states, from monarch to hivemind.

The representative sent to this meeting is actually a telepresence android controlled by the median reactions of representatives for the different member nations, as aggregated by a nonsentinent AI in realtime.))
