You FORGOT the map?!
« on: April 06, 2011, 09:33:44 pm »

New problem; I'm lost. Not like ''Man I could find my way out if I focused'' type lost, but I think I'm either somewhere under the ocean by now, or perhaps below a volcano. Or maybe I'm 3 levels below a prairie. I have no idea, and I would like to leave this cave now. I don't suppose there's an easy way to get a way out, is there? I think I picked up a pick at some point...

This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't boring. I encoutnered some friendly bat people. I've killed three trogs and two moledogs. That's all.

i guess you could just give in to starvation.

but if you do find a way out, you now have a story to tell about that time you got lost underground and fought off ten forgotten beasts to claw your way out

I was hoping to not have to starve. I want out of here, but I just can't find the exit. :<

I don't know. Sometimes when I rest in a cave it pops me outside, but I'm not sure that would work in this case.

Too bad things like mining aren't in adventure mode yet, or you could use that pick to dig out.

I think you can speed travel out of there if you are below dwarf fortress or a human town or anything you can speed travel out of.
atleast that worked for me when lairs werent invented and i just could walk down there from any cave.

So, just see what town/place is nearest to you and head into that direction

I know it used to be possible with caves, but that definitely doesn't work anymore, I haven't yet tried with human towns, though I'm not optimistic.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I assume you already tried to head towards the cave which you entered by using the quest map and the nearby location indicator in the upper left corner? Those do the trick for me.

That cave was so up-and-down-and-side-passage that I was standing right under it but didn't see anythign I recognized. It was impossible to tell where I had been and where I hadn't been.

For future exploration into caves, the amount of the map you can remember is dependent upon your memory skill.

You don't. What you start it at is where it stays.

Incidentally, Elves (and Goblins) always have perfect memories. Even if you dump the stat all the way down in character creation.
