If you're going to have more than 4GB of RAM, a 64-bit OS is a must.

If you are going to have more than 2 gigs of ram and a relatively modern video card... 64-bit is a must.

Some 32bit operating systems (windows!) can't address more than 3 gigs and your video card memory counts towards that limit.

actually you can use up to 8 GB of ram in Windows XP to 7, you just need to change a registry key and define everything above as a Storage/Harddrive. (guess where i used to run DF from)
Only downside: it gets deleted whenever you reset the PC. better yet to put the pagefile there. requires 3rd party tools iirc.

Windows 7 you can just turn off paging right from the performance tab, not recommended with games unless you got 16gb though.

Thanks for all the advice guys, after looking around forever, I finally have a list in mind, though it turns out that it ends up as even more than I intended.

Few things though, I found ibuypower to be a bunch of lying snakes-in-the-grass, they really wanted me to believe that they were using HELIUM cooling systems for under 15 bucks, and refused to name a brand with it, their computer cases have misleading pictures that suggest they have an on-case display on them(which turns out is optional at +50 something dollars), and their motherboard selection was disappointing. Also they kept throwing out the stuff in my shopping cart.

So anyways, I'm deciding to build one, which is cool because my local store matches online prices, so no bent pins for me!

Spoiler: Setup: (click to show/hide)

Total cost: $1883.97 D:

Since, again, my local store matches online prices, if any of you find prices listed that are lower than this, please tell me lol.

560 is 250 bucks and got at least more than half of the performance of the 580.

Wait, I'm confused here. I just figured that since the 560 is a 1GB drive, and the 580 is 1.5 GB, that the 6950, coming in at 2GB, was only $290 each and would be automatically better, is there something wrong with it?

Wait you determine the best of cards via memory? Woah woah woah. first off, the only reason you need that much memory is if you're going nuts on the eyecandy. Cards are rated by speed too, you can have the most memory but shitty performance. 6950 are cheap but thats it, 560 got some thunder under the hood.

very finicky very fragile things such as the CPU and RAM.

... wat?

RAM is neither finicky nor fragile. There's only one way to put it in, and if the little tabs close all the way when you push it in, you did it right.

If anything the mobo is finicky, biggest pain in the ass to setup especially for OC-ing

*eyebrows furrow* feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this because I don't know much about hardware, but isn't the speed of the two cards really similar? (800 for 6950 versus 822 for 560)

Yes and technically the 6950 got more cores than the 560 (1048 vs. 386) but Nvidia has damn good performance due to their quality firmware i seen.

I've heard corsair's liquid cooling system is a bit sub-par, apparently it generates a lot of noise and the cooling performance isn't actually much better than most performance heatsinks. It's not the worst choice of course, but the price tag in comparison to performance is the deal breaker for me. That said,  I feel like the CPU and MOBO (and to some extent the graphics card) are a bit overboard, but I'm a bit restrained when it comes to building a PC. If you feel like you need that kind of power, then I guess it's fine.

Heh, gotta get that e-peen.

Any suggestions for a better cooling system? H70 does run a pretty ridiculous price tag.
