Urist McCarpenter wants an artifact...?
« on: April 05, 2011, 10:03:54 pm »

I've been playing DF for a while, and have actually gotten pretty decent.  I'm actually surprised I've never had need to post a question here earlier.

That said, I had a question about one of my dorfs.  Urist McCarpenter, an Accomplished Carpenter, got a mood...
He's in my carpenter workshop, and when I check the shop, it says "Urist keeps muttering Ushil Lek..."

Wtf is that supposed to mean?  He's already dragged three logs into the shop, but he refuses to do anything with them...

That'd be the name of the artifact he's making. They only do that when they're making it.

but I never got a notice that he started making it...

EDIT: damn, I feel stupid.  don't ya hate it when you're trying to finish something and you get a wave of 30+ useless migrants...?  -.-

Well then, I have no idea. Wall him in and wait/find an artifact named that.

Is he possessed? Possessed dorfs repeat the name of the artifact when they start. Make sure you didn't get a notice.

Yeah I just looked through a few pages of logs and found the notice.  But I just got a goblin siege, I expect a lot of !FUN! before he gets to finish.

Yeah...  a squad of goblin swordsmen just ripped my fort to shreds.  I hastily threw together a couple hunters to fight them, but with no metal bolts, they didn't last long.  And Urist McCarpenter didn't survive to finish his construction...

Yeah, I suggest you learn how to wall in your fort real fast. Don't worry, losing is fun, the learning curve cliff isn't so bad when you've picked it up, and http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Category:DF2010:Masterwork_Quality_Articles is helpful. So is the Modify button, btw.

I already know the basics, but I guess my mod to try and get the gobbos to be more aggressive was a bit TOO much.  A goblin siege after nearly a year...  I'll have to go back and re-modify their entry.
