It still is 50 for tier 2.

And if you go around doing it right, you can get 'unlimited' energy by buying some, and making it up in exploring.

Maybe I was doing it wrong, but I never made enough crowns to buy back 100 energy after spending 100 diving. Even if I didn't die at all.

Any tips?

Do you try to completely explore every level? If you don't get everything you can, you're wasting energy. Still, I see some people just running to the elevator...

You know those levels where there are a number of locked rooms with a key in each and a treasure room with no key in it? And how some prick will pick up the key and beeline to the treasure room? Screw those guys. Screw 'em long, screw 'em long.

Are there any good ways to beat the lag? I keep moving, watching my character stand there, and suddenly find out that I'm standing on spikes.

Lag, combined with evil clones everywhere, = party wipe.
Phantoms are easy, as long as you get rid of them as soon as possible.
They only spawn two at a time.

If you get into trouble, rush the elevator.  As the zombies are so slow, it's not hard, as long as you don't make a wrong turn ;)

Spiral Knights' habit of lagging
I've actually very rarely seen lag.  Huh.

My friends and I haven't gotten much of any lag ever in SK. Worst I've experienced is a tiny rubberband every minute or two.

I had bad lag earlier and nearly died trying to kill Snarl for the third time. First two times with tier 2 gun 0 rest, cakewalk. Third time all tier 2 gear just trying to get to tier 2 area, had to use all three of my health boost items, revive once, and nearly died a second time too.

With the lag, the damn bell just wouldn't stun him. I must have spent an hour hitting the bell over and over and over with him right on top of it and no stun. The only times I managed to stun him was just randomly shooting it and happening to have him stunned a few times even though he wasn't even close to the bell (right after he warped away, or right as he went into the ground). The lag eventually stopped and I was able to stun him repeatedly and kill him.

Hmm, if you don't pay for crystals, how do you get started? I've upgraded both gun and sword to the $3000 tier, but they don't mean a thing. Even the weakest monsters take several attacks to kill. Or was I joining a party in a deep level?

Also the players don't seem too friendly... they either leave when you join (why don't they start a private party then), or they don't help in fighting at all.

I just played a game... two (from their HP bar probably high level) left in terminal, the remaining one with less max HP (but still more than me) went down with me, but he stayed at the elevator for 2 whole minutes. I had to lead one jelly back to him to get him going.

Then he'd stand outside and watch me fight a whole room of monsters (those behind reappearing blocks) with 1 HP left. I managed to make it to the end, then left.

It's not like I will diminish their reward or something... as I understand it from the wiki, heat and crowns are given to all players once picked up, and crafting materials are rather abundant. As long as I'm not picking up the largest piece of mineral I'm not leeching from them in any way? And I do fight, even with 0.5 HP left.

Are they waiting for me to die to claim that heat bonus or something?

Actually, picking up the biggest piece of mineral in no way, shape, or form hurts other players - everybody gets all the minerals collected, so if you pick up a 4-value chunk, everybody on the team gets 4 minerals from it. Materials are the only items that aren't awarded to everybody. (I can kinda see people getting demanding for materials early on, though - the first time I tried to craft stuff, Blue Shards were selling for 300+ if you could manage to outbid the dozens of other people with nothing better to do than wait for the "You have been outbid!" message.  :o)

You might just have had bad luck with people. Like with any online game, you're bound to find the odd asshole; moreso in a free-to-play game, where you haven't committed real money to an account. Most of the people I've played with have been nice, if occasionally borderline incompetent. It might help to join games already in progress instead of starting a lobby - people seem less likely to leave if they're already partway through the tier.  ;)

If you die, your heat goes, but they can't pick it up, also, you can give half your health to someone.
Also people may leave due to having no energy, so dont look into it that much, but when they leave you alone..
And yeah, people not fighting is annoying :/

I read on the wiki that when you resurrect someone, you get a percentage of the heat lost.

My first and last MMO is Ultima Online... I played a bit of Second Age, then stopped as all my roleplaying pals were gone. I've played OOO's Puzzle Pirates a bit... but not paying in that game is very harsh, as items decay with time. You'd really end up looking like a beggar, wearing rags and swordfighting with a stick.

I'm not likely to pay for any online games again... don't want to be tied down, don't want to commit to any single game. I buy plenty of offline games though.

Although my experience with pubbies in the game has been pretty positive, I'd reccommend adding the various Bay12 peeps to your friends list - always better to play with people you know.

I'm AlStar in game, feel free to send a friend request.

If you revive someone, you'll transfer over 1/2 your health, and get 1/3 of their heat. If you revive yourself, I believe that 1/3 of heat is instead lost (not 100% on that though, you might get to keep it.) While I suppose that particularly heat-hungry, unscrupulous people could try to farm your corpse, it really doesn't seem worthwhile. If you're in a 'group' like that, just click on the party option "play solo" - no need to deal with jerks.

It’s possible you were joining a party that was pretty far down. Also possible is that your new weapon(s) are inflicting damage that the enemies you’re facing are strong against.

One good thing about the proto weapons – they don’t do much damage, but all that damage is ‘normal’ damage, so nothing is weak or strong to it. If you’re using a… hot edge, for instance (50% normal, 50% elemental) against wolvers (strong vs elemental), you’re going to be doing less damage overall then you were with the proto sword.

Edit(2):

Hmm, if you don't pay for crystals, how do you get started?

Use your mist energy to go down t1. Kill all your enemies. Collect loot. When you hit Moorecraft (or run out of energy), head back up and sell all your loot on the AH. If you’ve got enough crowns, buy CE (click on the (-) icon in the bottom right.) Repeat as desired.

On t1, it takes a bit of luck to actually make a net profit if you’re not using mist, but in t2 (assuming you don’t get killed), it’s quite possible to do a full run (80 energy) and come out with enough to buy 100 energy, and then some.

Danger zones can be extremely profitable, but you might want to avoid those for now. As their name suggests, they're not filled with love and happiness.

I just went through this thread (18 pages) and send out a truckload of friend requests to everyone with a message "Bay12Games :D". I hope I didn't miss anyone!

My in-game name is Evilnut.

Is crafting the way to go to get higher tier gear? I have a bit above 6K crowns now, should I buy recipes with them?
