Two "broken lungs", if I'm correctly reading the status page, may mean our hero's beyond the reach of dwarven medicine.

That said, I fully support adding [NO_BREATHE] and so forth to make it possible for him to survive to reach medical treatment.

Heh, no success so far, as another goblin squad tends to join in the fun, and eventually, with over 30 goblins battering away at once, one of them gets a good solid headshot. But! I've got a save, and can keep retrying indefinitely. Of course, my military isn't that great, anyway. Not that much hope of ANYONE surviving, let alone the guy with two broken lungs.

Keep him alive with RuneCraft. It can boost his toughness and recuperation to massive levels. He deserves to survive through cheating.

I'm guessing it's a utility, right? Sounds like it's worth a shot, although his toughness and recuperation already seem pretty damn good.

It is indeed a utility; it will let you tweak his attributes to give him the best chance naturally possible.

That said, after thorough testing in the OTA, it looks like he'll need at least one working lung within a few dozen turns regardless of his stats or he'll fall tragically short of being a living legend.

From the Runesmith thread, I believe https://github.com/peterix/dfhack/raw/bbf64a1614ca8ffddca889cd60da4c3d0d25fa77/Memory.xml should work; simply paste it into your Runesmith folder as memory-ng.xml.

I haven't managed to get Runesmith working yet, but my rescue attempts have been going pretty poorly...
Cerol usually dies just as the heroes are running across the open ground between the main hall and the basement where he's being cut apart, and then they get slaughtered as well.
