How about a three-story prison?
« on: April 04, 2011, 06:29:09 pm »

I've had an idea to give the prison two additional stories with a prison control switch on each level. The lowest one would only release captured liberals with normal time-limited sentences. The middle one would release people with life sentences. The highest up one would release people with death sentences. People with harsher sentences would then be harder to free.

Is this something you would like to see in the game?

I'm guessing most players free their captured liberals from the police station or court house lockups so it might not make a meaningful difference.

I've never actually tried to free a liberal before they went to the big house, so it would for me.

This a great idea which reflects the fact that petty thieves are not kept in the same prison as mass murderers.

It better conports with reality AND makes the game harder.  Great all-around.

How about it changing togheter with the issues?
In the Conservative Society, where every crime is equal, it would make sense that everyone is kept in the same prison.  But when the issues are more liberal, they should be kept at different places.

In Arch-Conservative society, where prisons are just death machine holding cells, yeah.  The prison should also be better fortified.  Perhaps the prisoners are only held on the third floor.

In Elite Liberal society, the third floor should be vacant, as nobody is sentenced to death.

Changing how many prisoners are spawned when pushing a prison control switch wouldn't be hard, except I'm not sure how to define "arch-conservative society" in the code. Also, this wouldn't affect prisoners randomly spawned by walking around.

For captured liberals, an arch-conservative society already tends to give most a death sentence.

The reason I asked about this is that I ended up coding it last week and I wanted to know opinions about it rather than just commiting the change.

There probably is a "arch conservative" variable. See- Firemen/Firefighters.

Firemen are based on Free Speech, therefore this should mostly be based on a certain issue as well.

For prison, I think Death Penalty works best here, as that's the issue that determines the punishments you get for your crimes in the first place - torture might be viable as well, but putting two issues in the fray might be too complicated.

Currently, at C+ death penalty, the prison is renamed to something like Happy Acres Re-Education Camp, and is staffed by Educators with lab coats and syringes. (After all, there's only a 50% chance of being executed when sentenced for disturbing the peace!)

Makes sense I guess. What do you need prisons for anyone who commits a legitimate crime gets killed?

You should put a Cage filled with rats in the Re-Education Camp!

Just to make things clear and final, here is what I meant to say:

When Death Penalty is C+ (aka everyone dies), where prisons are just death machine holding cells, yeah.  The prison should also be better fortified.  Perhaps the prisoners are only held on the third floor.

When Death Penalty is L+ (aka death penalty outlawed), the third floor should be vacant, as nobody is sentenced to death.

So, I meant to say that the prison changes based on the death penalty law, such as it is now.  Since the game seems to use different buildings for each prison type (it redraws the map), it should be relatively easy.  I'm really only guessing, as programming is not a skill I possess.

EDIT: Oh, I see you coded something.  If you're worried about its appeal, try releasing a compiled version with your new code.  Some of us will test it out, and you'll likely know whether or not you want to commit it within 24 hours.  Or just change the main version.  We like new features!   ;D

Here's an executable and new sitemaps.txt if you want to try it:

Saves are compatible, both ways.

I couldn't get it to work, the program claimed I was missing a file.
