By +1 do you mean +1 as in an additional -1 penalty to casting or +1 as a +1 bonus to casting?

That's only to casting. Not hitting.

Get more skilled, use AoE spells, or start using something other than magic.

Also: is AoE possible?
Yes.

According to the spoiler in the OP, AOE spells always hit but do meager damage.

By which he means, they always hit the party and do massive damage to us.

Can we all agree to reserve AOE attacks/heals for desperate situations? and NO summoning monsters in battles.

I learned these things from staggered magi. Trust me!

Thank god. Seriously, summoning and anything like it is just horrible. No, wait, not horrible, horrible.

AOE always works? What about an AOE healing spell?

I'm considering an AoE heal-over-time effect. That'll end especially well. :D

Charge the Dragon, leap into the air, and smash my bottle into its skull, driving it through the brain!
But I need that skull!

OR AT LEAST I DID BEFORE IT STARTED MELTING ANYONE WHO TOUCHED IT. HA HA HA.

AAAAHHHHH SECOND PAGE AAAAAAHHHHH

Also, I was doing the turn yesterday but lost it and didn't want to continue after that (fortunately, I was only a little bit in anyway). However, I did remember some details of it, so anything in Asterisks is a remembered section: Meaning, although I don't have the specific rolls, I still remember what it was like, so you'll have to trust me on the rolls. Anyway, if you find the turns a little lacking in flavor text, sorry, but I'm not feeling like writing it all over again...

Combat in Deep Whispers: Dragon cave.
Spoiler: Initiative (click to show/hide)

If there is somebody nearby and I can affect self with spells: inconspiciously heal myself, preferably with Hard(-1) difficulty spell.
