Does this include vermin?
I have never ever seen a topic about an ambush being discovered by vermin, so I would say no.

There's a cap to the number of animals allowed in the fort and my eggsplosion hit it by year 2 so cats could not give birth until there were deaths.
The population cap is by species, not by fort. Perhaps you only had a single-sex cat population?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Yes, anything with functioning eyes will do.
But kittens are the best choice, I assume?
I suggest Russian bears. Unicycles make things much more fun.
Oooh. He's good.

You forget something:

Ah I see you're new to DF. See, nothing can be "the best" until you add a substantial amount of magma. I suggest flaming kittens.

Flaming Russian bears made of Zinc. They'll turn into vapor upon impact and create LOTS of Fun.

You'll have to provide warm, moist kittens at the end of each test chamber.
Dwarf Fortress:
Where 9% of your town is casualties, is good.
