MATUL REMRIT: an illustrated dwarf fortress tale
« on: April 03, 2011, 01:59:15 pm »

Matul Remrit is a dwarf fortress tale that combines Stonesense, artwork, writing, and music to illustrate a run through the game. Each update is from the perspective of a different in-game dwarf, and it's written in a style that replicates the stilted "translated" feel of the in-game text. The story adheres closely to in-game events, except in cases of flavor writing (such as social interactions between the dwarves). It's been running on SomethingAwful for about a year now.

I've seen a few links here before, but I figure I'd give it its own thread for those who haven't seen it yet. A few forumers here contributed to it, such as Deon (contributed custom sprites) and Japa and the Stonesense crew (helpfully fielded questions I had about Stonesense). The website banner (the pixel mule) was designed by Chariot, who generously gave permission to use it.

Some of the media places we've been featured:
KOTAKU - NITROBEARD - BEEFJACK - COMICS ALLIANCE - AFTER ACTION REPORTER - DIGITAL HUMANITIES SPECIALIST - POLYGAMIA - ROCK PAPER SHOTGUN - TIGSOURCE

Hope you enjoy it :)

Just read the whole thing. That was great. I like the broken English and dwarfy slang - it makes it so that some interpreting is required and it ends up feeling like reading another language.

Definitely one of the most original LPs out there. Its writing fits with the theme and style of DF, and I think it's well worth the effort

Also, the production values!

Too bad, I can no longer see the Something Awfull thread without registration, there were some explanations of what was happening in game terms.

I know OP has plugged the other current SA DF succession game, Gemclod, before and it can't currently be accessed without registration, but I really like if only because it wound up becoming "Dwarf Fortress: The Musical".

I'd link directly to the songs, but I don't know if that would be okay with the songsmith.

Wonderfully done. I think this is my favorite line so far, though.
