I think I just accidentally robbed a caravan...
« on: April 02, 2011, 08:47:46 pm »

So, I was messing around and setting up a hospital (and a dwarf caravan arrived at that time). As soon as I defined the hospital zone, a bunch of dwarfs ran off to get supplies. I noticed they all ran outside, in the direction of the approaching caravan. Then, they came back along with the caravan, and each one was carrying a thing of cloth. The only possible explanation is that they tried to fill the hospital with supplies from the only available source. No further theft was observed. I guess I'll try to set up some sort of fake hospital and see if I can pull this off next year.

Your dwarves probably won't bring you quite as much stuff next time, but they'll be okay with it otherwise.

Just give them a healthy profit and they won't care.

if you offer them A LOT of stuff (give) and THEN destroy the Trading Depot, they will bring just as much, if not more.

It's not about the profit; it's about the principle of the thing.
It's just immoral to let elves leave the map without being robbed at least a little.

By all things dwarvenly, I approve this statement.

Except that, when an elf makes a snarky comment about me not giving him enough for his goods (despite me offering over 5k worth of stuff above what I traded), I'm not in the mood to let him leave with anything.

Often, I won't let him leave with his life. No one talks to me like that. Especially not when I was already being so generous.

I had this happen as well.

My entire base was almost decimated by a siege that occurred at roughly the same time.

I find it's simpler just to wait for the elves to arrive next spring; any dwarf hurt so grievously in the first year to need sutures or bandaging is left for dead.

The elves make excellent military training as well.

It can be downright irritating, however, when you're trying to get the hospital to stock non-cloth items in the designated quantities; I'm pretty sure the last version to have this bug also has the bug where if there aren't enough crutches or whatever, your dwarves will fill the extra space with thread and cloth. Especially if you wanted some of that silk for your booming wholesale clothing industry.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.
