If you're not above using an exploit, demons are unable to deconstruct hatches from below (unless that's been fixed recently).  I've also used artifact doors to try to hold them back, but they just deconstructed it...  however, it's possible they were able to do this only because I had mechanisms attached to it.

I'm not above exploits. So the demons aren't above hatches  :P
Anyways, I need to be able to kill them, even if it takes a while. I can't let any of my dwarves get at them because they'll bring in !!Face Acid!! through the rest of the fort.

Artifacts can be deconstructed if constructed, but they cannot be destroyed by things like fire or being worn out if it's clothing.

So when you have an unbreakable door they just rip it out of the wall instead of breaking it down. Makes sense, but kind of a pity.

Makes me wish you could have artifact hinges/walls.

I'm currently building the contraption i designed previously, complete with bronze doors for bait. I'll let you know how it goes. It has numerous failsafes, so if i don't kill the demons, worst thing that could happen is an FPS death. Last time i poked a hole, it didn't slow down notably, so i'll be fine. :U

I wonder if there are any forgotten beasts that would be good at killing demons - say the ones that have some particularly nasty property that screws demons up.

Demons are to dwarfs as FBs are to animals. Depends on the individual.

Curses, it crashed right after dropping the bomb. Perhaps some demons don't react well to dust?
