Silly Elf, axe is for your face
« on: April 02, 2011, 07:55:42 pm »

So, I was just having a normal fortress, doing normal things, when I realized I had very little cloth. Luckily, some elves were up top on the surface, milling about my trade depot, so I figured I'd make them a gem encrusted toilet and get some bandages. Well, I *apparently* accidentally tried to trade them a wooden cage while dumping some gems on them [I just click, I don't read.] from when I bought my bear from them.

Anyways, long story short, they got a little cross with me and I decided I wasn't going to take that insult. So I murdered them and took their stuff. inherited their goods after an unfortunate accident. I have included my own artist's rendering of how this may have gone down.

My question is, is there any actual downside to being at war with the elves? I mean I'll miss having them bring me elephants and bears [on the backs of camels, those silly magicians] but other then that, I don't see a problem

Rumors say they may be using iron weapons now, meaning they may be far more dangerous than before.

But if you killed all of them, that means their homeland may not have gotten word that they were killed, and you may not have any reprecussions. If you want them to start attacking you, you gotta let at least one of them leave the map alive.

I heard that if a caravan doesn't return, civs assume that they were killed by you-- perhaps that's less potent than an escape, though...

They're elves. I surely don't fear their raiding parties of men[women?] who throw flowers and girly insults at me.

if your able to get close, your fine, but they will make a pincussion out of you before you get close

Dwarves don't feel arrows. They simply wade through them and then hug the elf, using said arrows to teach the elf acupuncture.

Until one hits the dwarf in the brain. They still don't feel it, but it kills them.

...dwarves have brains? That's news to me.

The only purpose of a dwarf's brain is to control beard growth, without a continuously growing beard they die. Kind of like when a shark stops moving.

They just monitor the dwarf's various needs and tell them when to eat/get drunk/sleep on a drawbridge/run away from rabbits/NOT run away from Forgotten Beasts/get out of the lava.

According to DF Talk #10 (IIRC), that is one of the higher-priority things for a dwarf to do.
