Do Female Dwarves Have Beards?

Here's a classic fantasy debate for you folks!

I don't think Toady imagines bearded lady-dwarves, since I haven't seen any in the character "Thoughts and Preferences", but what do you think?

In the dwarf raws, there's a bit of toadycode that's commented out. If you uncomment it, it gives females dwarves beards.

So no, not in vanilla, but it's very easy to put them in.

Haha, Oh Toady, such a lovely fellow. I'll have to turn it on so my ladies can feel like real dwarves. I hope even the babies grow beards!

Male babies already do.

Fully formed and braided right at birth.

So I guess turning it on for lasses would turn it on for lass babies.

Yeah, soon as I found out about that bit of code, I turned it on, too.

Maybe I'm a stick in the mud for the older fantasy stuff, but I don't like seeing dwarves, female or not without beards. Frustrating to play Dragon Age and see even dwarf men without beards.

In the creature standard raw, dwarfs are first. Scroll down to the female caste section, which should look like this:

[CASTE:FEMALE]
      The gender tag lets it know how breeding works.
      [FEMALE]
      [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE]
      To add beards, put square brackets around the following:
      BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS

As it says, just put brackets around the last line and they'll have beards.

Arcanum was an interesting game - the way it chose to avoid the question is by saying that female dwarves are coveted and never seen by anyone but other dwarves. There is literally not a single female dwarf in that whole game.

And now you know why their civilization is dying out. (That than the fact that they will use magma for decoration but not for !!moats!!)
