Was this neccessary...or WISE?
« on: April 02, 2011, 05:58:07 pm »

Remembering how rare GCS used ot be, I did what I used to do and altered the raws to make them more abundant. This is the result:

So, is this a good idea, or am I setting myself up for LOTS of fun? In particular the cluster number and  pop size.

171. My character's dying words are not allowed to be "Hastur, Hastur, Hastur"
218. No matter my alignment, organizing halfling pit fights is a violation.
231. I am not allowed to do anything that would make a Sith Lord cry.
240. Any character with more than three skills specializing in chainsaw is vetoed.

not fun enough....add poison(fire) breath(or "vomit"), and roams in herds of 200 or so, and on every map, every level

I actually WOULD like them on every map. Which is why I increased their pop and frequency. GCS are my favorite animals to tame, vying closesly with Giant Desert Scorpions.

Then up their frequency to 100. I tend to go with 500:500 population and 100:100 cluster sizes for them and helmet snakes. They swarm everything underground, and I can usually collect enough of them that dropping a siege squad amongst them will result in a dead squad and a crapload of silk.

By not venturing down there without a heavily armed escort.

about helmet snakes
Checking the wiki:
"Helmet snakes are small snakes that carry a horrific venom. Any body part bitten by a helmet snake will cause a bevy of symptoms, with the part eventually becoming necrotic and falling off unless treated quickly."
tl;dr helmet snakes are great for snake pits

Dammit, I caught two of them and abandoned before! (And I was just forced to abandon my last fort with two dralthas. Turns out, Caverns are abundant in gems. That does NOT mean, however, that dwarves should jump down there to add to the stockpile.) I think they were a breeding pair too...oh well, just need to build another fort, and find some more. PREFERABLY one WITHOUT food issues.

Basically, the entire wiki article is like "Did we tell you their venom is bad for you? It's bad for you. Don't get bitten by them. Let goblins get bitten by them."
