Destroyable buildings.

Alleys, Gardens, Seiges, Mansions, Districts, Castles, Guards, Patrols, Seiges (In game and Legends), politics, assassians, sewers, serial killers, gangs, beggars, doctors, buildings with rooms...

Going around the city setting buildings on fire would be fun, especially if the whole city started burning.

I'd like to see cities grow naturally.

From the schematics posted so far it looks like it can generate quite a nice well planned city layout as a one off, but cities grow organically.

Cites should start out as small towns and grow,
City walls might get built when the threat of invasion lurks.
An influx of migrants might cause slums to be built around the outside of the walls, eventually the old walls serve no purpose and outer walls are built to enclose the new districts. (this way you get nice rich/poor divided lands)

Land should be set aside for graveyards when people die, these would become parklands.

A war or fire might damage large parts of the city causing it to become abandoned or rebuilt in a newer style.

The game already has these things in the history stuff, it'd be great to see the cities make use of it.

I'd love to see thieves guilds and black market stuff and gangs, conflicts between guards and criminal scum, you could do quests for either group. Assasination missions.

I'm looking forward to having cities, damn it. I am not a fan of always seeing one-story wooden houses with no unique features at all.
Another thing would be the ability to have very centralized adventures. Right now, you travel through the vast wilderness, encountering nothing for forever until you get where you are going. Cities would mean you would have adventures pretty much non-stop on a single location.

Haha very nice everyone, from the city templates given today they are shaping up quite nicely! Once things get smoothed out, i'm sure we'll see more of an organic look. I understand from Toady's point of view though, to make something "organic" means developing a code that can mimic human patterns, with a touch of randomness involved.

Good suggestions thesleepless, some of those are really cool. It'd be nice if cities had special random events, such as *founded around an artifact* or *founded around the worship of megabeast x* or things like that during their generation.

Looking forward to whatever the heck the next release holds!

P.S. The "graffiti" with wall engravings sounds AWESOME! Props for that idea monsterfurby!

Wow, the new city maps look heaps better, nice to see parts of the city outside the walls, and the open spaces are great.

Being able to live out my fantasies of a medieval dwarven Rorschach. So I just want windows to be able to jump out of.

How about a GIANT BAT BATMAN?
But then you wouldn't be able to use any weapons.
