unlimited water from sealed tower

Cistern filling gone wrong...
After opening the floodgate, the cistern filled up and when it started to overflow, the pressure plate on the level above triggered and closed the floodgate automatically.  Water in cistern is now disconnected from the brook.
However the dining room containing the well is now full of water.
Assuming this to be because of slow reacting mechanisms, I ordered the dwarves to dig out an area under the dining room to drain the water into.

code:

After breaking through the wall on the pressure plate level to drain the dining room, upwelling water filled the entire fortress.
Despite filling hundreds of tiles up to 7/7, the water at the top of the entry ramp remained at level 5/7.
I expected flooding to be limited to the volume of water in the entry pipe, but that wasn't being drained.

This is in the .33b version

ps: if I put the floodgate on the lowest level, would the upwelling have stopped when the floodgate is closed?

Um, if the pressure plate closes the floodgate when there's deep water on its level, and you start draining that level, then the floodgate is going to open again.  You should've just drained the dining room.

Thats not it (it was set for shallow water); in any case the pressure plate level, dining room level and the level above that all filled up to 7/7 over about 10 minutes.

Actually, it is possible to generate infinite water. I should get around to writing up a full bug report on it.

This also might be a cause of pressure-plate down -> open floodgate.
