For methods of circumventing the cage, you could just bring a world, solar system, galaxy, universe, or multiverse (in descending order of nastiness to the inhabitants). There are few opponents that wouldn't get lost in the multiverse, and by the time most of those found you they wouldn't remember why they were looking.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Call me pedantic, but need I remind you of the gravitational repercussions of bringing any of those items into such a confined space as a cage?

Neither the size nor the dimensions of the cage were defined; if I brought a world (or world-sized character) the cage would still be able to contain all elements of the duel. If I brought a multi/uni-verse, the cage would constitute the bounds of reality and take on new dimensions. It's also not defined that the combatants be placed within range of each other, and from that, no implication that the main advantage of the reader's object be stripped away (although their control of the object certainly could be). Choosing pieces of the cage as the reader's object could just mean that the object is duplicated for their use, but they would still be able to use the unbreakable bars or sheets of metal.
I think a more obvious problem would be "where do you land in your multiverse?"

I thought of Joseph Stalin. I brought Lavernty Beria. He eventually takes him out, but before that, they both sentence me to death for counterrevolutionary activity.

He doesn't fucking die! Autopsies found out it was the frigid temperature of the water that finally killed him. He was trying to claw his goddamn way out of the ice covering on the water.

Eh? I figured he dies because of the gypsies curse on his family that makes him die instantly if he as much as touches deep water.

Well, the problem isn't so much the size of the cage, but more so the shape and position... And size of it.
Yes you could fit a planet inside a cage, but could you stop the planet from tearing the cage in on itself?
If I brought a multi/uni-verse, the cage would constitute the bounds of reality and take on new dimensions.
This is exactly why I only mentioned gravity. I was trying to stay clear of the whole multi-verse inside of a multi-verse, or reality inside of reality issue.

Choosing pieces of the cage as the reader's object could just mean that the object is duplicated for their use, but they would still be able to use the unbreakable bars or sheets of metal.
I'm keeping that in mind, if I ever return with another character.

I think a more obvious problem would be "where do you land in your multiverse?"
I think to be honest, that becomes a problem the moment you distort the shape of the cage.

I think referring to a planet as an "item" might be stretching the term a bit. A "multiverse" is an even harder sell.
