Possible explanation why recent worldgen is so... elfy
« on: April 01, 2011, 08:58:46 am »

Out of the many smaller worlds I recently generated, most of them were dominated by a single civilization - usually an elf civilization. They even depopulate towns and villages. I wondered what makes them so successful in the many autocalc battles each civ goes through, and found out elven patrols now regularly use iron weapons. Has there been a change in their taboo?

It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

Something to do with pocket worlds not giving enough space for other civ's to dig in and defend themselfs properly.

Looking through legends, my worlds have been ones of horrible famine. Kings and queens and commanders being replaced every few years as they too die off from hunger. Not even the elfs are free of the global famines!

These were not pocket worlds, but smaller worlds. And legends specifically mention the human hamlets and towns to be razed by the said elven kingdom.

Are elves immune to natural aging in the game?

Yeah. Elves don't have a [MAXAGE] token, so they don't die of old age.

Exactly. And I think that causes huge population explosions through the cause of history, because while all races die from wars, famines, FBs and such, humans and dwarves also die of old age. That gives the elves numerical superiority in later wars.

Which is normally nullified by their inferior weaponry, but if they are indeed using iron weapons that would make them into a military superpower for certain.

Elves don't die of old age and eat their victims, so yes, Toady has created a race of super cannibal hippies by including famine.

And elves have a racial bonus to speed, which is a god-stat. Dunno if that helps during worldgen, but if they carry metal weapons now, that's a huge advantage.

Time to mod them into oblivion. Has anyone tried setting maxage to a negative value?

I saw elves using iron weapons and about fell over. Bows and arrows are enough for me to go against, but iron weapons? I settled in an area with Elves ONLY, to watch my leather-clad wrestlers wrestle them to Hell (Sometimes literally, it's amazing how quick they die...).

I wonder if giving that to Goblins would even it all out. TESTING TIME!

It's not that they have iron weapons now.  It's that they don't die of old age.

The problem I see is... well...

Elves win because of having vast numbers?
BUT Goblins are also immortal, and have NO_DRINK and NO_EAT...?

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
