Anybody else getting tired of ads showing up in places that indicate these people are just desperate for your attention?

I just realized something truly pathetic while browsing Joystiq.com.  The advertisements that you have to watch before being able to see a trailer or promo for a game are annoying enough, but the features following the ads are themselves advertisements.  In order to watch ads for a game, we must first watch ads for some bullshit that nobody cares about.  Does Joystiq not get paid enough, or at all, by the people making the game trailers?

Probably a lot of people here have made that observation before, but the absurdity of it just struck me for the first time.

I've heard of a couple companies that wanted to put their logo on the moon too.  What a perversion that would be.  Nevermind how that would fuck with all the people in the world who've never heard of lasers or electricity or Pepsi.  The worst thing about it?  They've probably never had to put up with stupid advertisements before either, but after that there'd be nowhere in the world within view of the sky to escape from it.

I hate marketers.

Diso Faintpuzzles was born in 120.  Although accounts vary it is universally agreed that Diso was chosen by fate as the vanguard of destiny.

In the early spring of 143 Diso began wandering the wilds.

In the early spring of 143 Diso starved to death in the Horn of Striking.

The thing that irritates me the most about it is that it actually works. People just go and buy all the useless shit they dont need then.

What exactly do you guys have to support this bitter cynical assessment of people's purchasing habits, besides more bitter cynicism?  Most of the stuff I see advertised anywhere on the Internet, let alone on Joystiq, I have never seen or heard of anyone actually buying.

Some people must be buying it, otherwise nobody would pay for those ads.

Not necessarily. Did you hear about Uwe Boll's movie making technique?

Hmm, well nobody is making you watch the trailer, you want to watch it. Hosting the trailer is a service to you, and in exchange for that service, you watch some ads to make money for the people preforming the service for you. I would like free music, but then why would bands keep making songs? So I buy my music. In a similar way I like being able to watch trailers, and although I would like to not have ads, it is a necessary evil.

Problems arise if a company is unethical about their advertisements, but then we have the debate over whether the web site owners are responsible for the quality of the ads.
