Saints Row 3
« on: March 31, 2011, 03:37:49 pm »

I am hugely in the bank for Saints Row as a franchise -  I definitely believe SR2 is a far more enjoyable game than GTA4, shoddy PC ports aside.

With the third announced for this fall/winter, they've finally released a debut trailer (sadly only available on GameInformer's site)

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/03/31/saints-row-the-third-debut-trailer.aspx

Yah. That's about all I need to see to lose my shit and laugh maniacally.

Don't have time right now to look up details and make a good post here but for now there's a list of some interesting new gameplay stuff and details of the plot and setting up on wikipedia of all places:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saints_Row:_The_Third

I quite like this entry:

Quote
Nearly all actions in the game can be sped up by holding down a second controller button, dubbed by Volition as the "awesome button"; for example, when carjacking, holding down this button will cause the player-character to missile-kick the driver out of the seat in short order

Johnny Cage wins!

I think that trailer has me sold already.

"Compatibility mode", dude. If he tries running it under "capatability mode" some terrible thing involving elder gods will probably happen.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

I concur. GTA4 was neat and had amazing graphics, but SR2 had more FUN and didn't take itself so seriously. I loved playing cooperative missions with my wife, painting the town with sewage to devalue property or starring in my own episode of cops as a vigilante with a stolen cop car, complete with laughable cameraman commentary.

Yes, SR2 was great fun. I even enjoyed decorating my personal gang of miscreants.

+1 interested in SR3.

It reminded me a lot of my favorite SR2 video, the 'review' from Destructoid's Anthony Burch (now a Duke Nukem Forever writer :P)

I wonder if I'll still be able to beat my friends with blowup dolls, crash fighter jets through office buildings and throw fire hydrants at people...

Let's hope they use the same voice actors for the boss here.

I just want them to keep the Pimp-herding. I luuurve pimp-herding.

I don't even own the game, but I find tales of pimp-herding hilarious.

Meh, the game was okay to me. Didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed GTA4.

They better have the quirky British voice actor again if you play as the same character, I love him.

Knowing next to nothing about three, all I can do is hope/

It's definitely the same 'character' as far as I can tell, carrying on from Shaundi, Gat, and the nameless Saints Leader celebrating their domination of the city streets in 2 by robbing some banks and getting caught for it, which eventually leads to them getting stranded in some other city.

Volition:  They take good concepts and add more fun to em.  Saints row will always be a gta clone in my book but it just added every stupid thing you wanted to do in gta, and made it a mission and rewarded you greatly for your insanity.  Ditto Red Faction: Guerrilla.  GTA + low gravity, destructible buildings, more explosives than you can poke a stick at and a sledgehammer that is one of the most fun primary weapons in any game ive played = Win.
