The only thing any elf seems to accept in trade these days is my Tinothabod *The Equal Strikes* adamantine battle axe.

Maybe its a bug   ;)

What if they accepted wooden bins if you had already got their mood up to "extremely pleased with trading" and it caused their mood to reset to "willing to trade"?

I guess my problem with this is that trying to trade wood to elves isn't *fun* enough to make a mark on you and cause you to either keep elves out of your fortress (no convenient way to do this so far) or to absolutely never trade wood to elves again. Unless you wanted to make it a bit less *fun* to your trade attempt, as in the elves would become furious and demand an extra 200* every time you tried to trade wood to them, but would still trade.

Elves don't trade for wood. I agree with Capntastic. Either you have Ethics or you don't. Now if there was a way to make your wood elf useable, perhaps through a ritual or something, I would support it because it ties into the fantasy environment.

[ETHIC:KILL_PLANT:UNACCEPTABLE]

Mushrooms aren't real plants, but they're sufficiently plantlike for the elves to get annoyed about it.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

That's exactly what Sutremaine SAID!!!!!

I think The real issue being raised by kylefiredemon, however, was that plant or not, they're not really WOOD.

Come to think about it, they shouldn't accept plant fiber cloth items either, not just wood items.

I have a "hit Enter, go down x10" macro for that. You even don't need to be aware of bins because they automagically get deselected when you select sthg from inside them for trade. So 100 times of enter, is just playing the macro 10 times.

+1 for this macro.  (I don't even bother to save that macro, I just record with Ctrl-R, hit enter/down until I get past the first trade screen, then hit Ctrl-R again.)  Plus macros like that come in handy for setting up stockpiles that don't accept or only accept metals (since all the metals are at the top of the list).

As an alternative to wooden bins, why can't we make them out of stone or clay?

Uhm, i always thought the brown colored stuff in trade was due to there being wood in it, and elves thusly refused to trade it.. Am i wrong in this assesment?

Stone bins would be very heavy. We should have the option though.

More in general, offering wood to the elves serves no purpose at all other than to piss them off, so automatically disregarding anything with wood in or on it when selecting trade goods to trade with the elves is something any professional broker should do - unless explicitly ordered otherwise.

I also hope for more variety between elves with flexible and rigid attitudes towards using wood. The more rigid elves would not even deign to show up at your dwarf fortress, that obviously kills and burns trees in large quantities.

Stone bins would be very heavy.

True, but so would bins made from lead or gold

We should have the option though.

At least they're easy to mod in

(note that this custom reaction may occasionally result in bins made from unbaked clay if you have clay boulders laying around; I'm not sure how to remedy this)
