A tag that allows an object to be used in wrestling to strangle.

Finally, the ability to choke out a goblin with my Xkitten leather turbanX.

Next up, strangling dragons with their own intestines.

In the future, sure, when more stealthy situation work their way into adventure mode (manors and the possibility of breaking into them is all ready on the to do list) this should be included and has my support. Right now though? I just bit someone's eyelid from behind without them seeing. Stealth needs some real work.

This suggestion would go great with some kind of way to make creatures stop grabbing clothes and beating you with them.

Rather, they'd strangle you with them.  Hey, at least it's more realistic!

Would garrotes? *piano wire* be affected by the metal it's made of?

In DF combat? The head would fly off in an arc.

You can strangle people with just about anything if you tried, though.

Using a spear?  Hold the haft of the spear against their neck.

An axe or hammer handle can do the same.

Any sort of fabric can be wrapped around a throat.

Heck, you could probably even just push down with a rock on their throat, although punching them in the throat with it would be more effective.

err... my point is, maybe it would be better to just have a "strangle with item" special attack than a token.  You could have a "flexible item type" token, but I think that would be better performed with some sort of function of a material property.

In a way, we already do - [STRUCTURAL_ELASTICITY_WOVEN_THREAD], [STRUCTURAL_ELASTICITY_CHAIN_METAL], and [STRUCTURAL_ELASTICITY_CHAIN_ALL].

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Shoving something down ones throat is more of choking than strangling.

How would you strangle someone with an anvil?

I suppose you could press down on the neck with the pointy part.

Maybe a barrel of booze?  This should really be a sport.

You could apply pressure to their throat using the bottom of the barrel on an angle.
