Whoa. The fort was a little disorganized in my turn, but this sounds like an actual disaster.

About the crundles - have they gotten into the fort proper, or just into the exploratory mining areas? Because the exploratory areas were blocked off, but it was a little hard to spot. I had to spend an hour figuring out where the chokepoints were to block them off.  But the only chokepoint was already sealed off, and the goblin-diverter was pretty clever, really.

EDIT: Took a look at the savegame. Someone unblocked the access to both the exploratory mining areas and the goblin-diverting spike trap area. !!FUN!! or possibly FUN-inducing.

Its an unmitiated disaster KOBOLDS posed a threat of wiping us out, goblins with nothing but machine guns wiped out our military, the only bonus is that we have a chef who can turn a couple plump helmet's into biscuits worth 6'000 Dwarf Bucks.

Yeah. I'm kind of amazed because I haven't been on the forums since I uploaded the save, and I think I left the fort in pretty good condition. We certainly weren't open to the caverns at that point, although admittedly we only had one (closed) floodgate in the way. That's as good as a wall, though.

Anyway, I came to see how things were going and fine the fort a total disaster zone, with crundles (of all things) running amok in the farm.

Also, the really quite large magma-forging area I built seems to be going unused, and another one is being dug...with the path to it leading through the caverns.  ::)

There was one very large room that may have been a magma smelting area but it was filled entirely with magma. Unrelated to the rest of the carnage in the fort which was mostly caused by the fact that one of our most powerful enemies kobolds are trap immune.

Omg, i leave home for the easter holidays, and the fort turns out so bad, that instead of goblin we get kobold raids, seems our goblin friends dont think we are good enough for them to raid us! Im sad about the loss of RTiger and the statue garden, that statue garden was.....sexy!

That's your problem then. The wall never got rebuilt, and you left a hole in the back wall.

Carving fortifications is always better then just building them.

I realise that it was a good idea to set up fortifications so archers could defend the rear end of the fort with relative ease.

warning this is a long post

Melkor’s log 7th malachite
Things have been quiet for a while, until I found out somebody is destroying workshops.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The carpentry will be rebuild, the trade depot can wait.

Melkor’s log 13th malachite
Guess we found our little vandal
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Melkor’s log 9th galena
We were able to put mozus the axedwarf to rest.
Took the engravers long enough, we only have 1 more ghost running around but we will get to him later.
Oh and this happened.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Melkor’s log 10th galena
The ‘’mayor’’ has demanded that we make some socks.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Why tha hell do we need more socks, really.
And later this day
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Why oo why does everybody want to play around with those forge’s.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Dam we need some more wood.

Melkor’s log 12th galena
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Better start on that trade depot I guess.

Melkor’s log 14th galena
Well it finally happened the little melancholy kid has died of thirst
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Melkor’s log 20th galena
This is bullshit!!!
What f**ked up retard does this.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
We are being ambushed through our refuse pile.
There is a hole in the freaking wall. What overseer design’s something like that.
We are gonna get slaughtered

Melkor’s log 21th galena
Okay.... or we will kick there asses. The kobolds didn’t stand a chance,
apparently Sostet Ghills Ubomgebar aka… i am gonna call you sostet for shorts.
Anyway sostet and rakust where already there, as if they knew about the ambush.
When the kobolds came they killed 7 of the 8 kobolds before any of the other soldiers came.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

When I looked rakust up in the logs I found a different name hmm strange. ^^
Everybody where amazed by the body parts that where flying around,
and then there they stood, victorious. with spear and shield they fought of the horde of kobolds.
Even though rakust made the kills, sostet was everywhere making gaps at the defense of the kobolds for rakust to Finish them.
I need to do something for them, don’t know what though.
Battle report of rakust
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I would like to place sostet battle report but its 15 pages and is a lot more, attack blocked, counterstrike missed.
And here I was thinking we would died one by one. Not only did those 2 kill the kobolds without any dead, they also lifted the moral of all the other dwarf’s.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now let’s close that hole in the wall.

Melkor’s log 23th galena
That mayor has mandate that we make leather armor now. Why would we need that.
We have 55 copper armor unless we are going to put our entire population in military we don’t need it.
Well shit let’s just make it. Would probably look good with his socks.
And the trade depot has been made so we can start trading with the humans.

Melkor’s log 26th galena
Aah yes these human know exactly what we need. Lots of bars and wood.
I just bought all their wood and stuff made out of wood, you never know when you need some wood stuff.
I also ordered our woodcutter to cut all those wood looking things in the caverns. That should solve our wood shortage for now.
And I need to split the finished goods pile in 2. 1 pile will hold crafts and the other finished goods.

Melkor’s log 27th galena
And there, we have it no more ghosts haunting us.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A ghost hunter.. sound familiar.
And I am finally going to find us some ore. I designed the shaft to dig in all directions
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Melkor’s log 3rd limestone
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Ooh yeah that guy. I wonder what he will make with
1 steel bar
2 Rough tigereyes
1 Rough blue jades
1 Wool cloth
2 Gaint mole bones (what is the obsession with bones in this fort)
1 Log
Let’s hope not some steel cage or something like that.
Aah who am I kidding of course he will.

Melkor’s log 8th limestone
Aaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Yyyyyyyeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaa
I could kiss that genus pisbag. A steel shield!!
Now that’s a artifact worth keeping. Dam its worth 146400.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Okay this will be our new symbol, this shield i want it engraved on the walls and floor right now.

Melkor’s log 10th limestone
Okay I think I need to have a world with our ‘’mayor’’ feb
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This is not why I ordered the engravers to engrave our hall. That guy must be really proud of his socks.

Melkor’s log 15th limestone
There we go this is what I want to see.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There is some other artwork as well that I find interesting.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Apparently there have been some murder’s around here.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
GOD DAMMIT FEB.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Okay so… you engraved some other guy who was engraving… very original.

Enough engravings for the moment let’s get back on ruling this fort.
Remember the first ‘to do list’ that I made. Neither do I.
But I need to make a place where my military can train. Or we have that already and I just don’t know where to find it.
I am lucky we have so much food, really our stockpile Is full with prepared meals.

Melkor’s log 2nd sandstone
And there we have it the storage is done, just need to remove a few more stones and I can designate piles.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Melkor’s log 13th timber
Another strange mood has come.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Let’s hope he makes something useful. Like a bin, my god we need loads of them.
Ooh and where still hauling all the shit that is just lying around. I don’t think ill be able to finish al that hauling in time.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Wow that was fast.
Let’s see what he will make with
3 logs and 1 stone block

Melkor’s log 15 timber
And a caravan arrives
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And at the same dam time a ambush comes.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I order all my dwarfs to get inside and my military will rush to the gates.
Sorry dude but your dead.

Melkor’s log 17th timber
Yes as to be expected the little dwarf got killed
But the remaining dwarfs got inside and the military is engaging the kobolds.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The battle goes well 1 kobold is dead and another will soon perish, but not so fast as he would like
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Not long after that the battle is over and the remaining kobolds flee the battle.
The final battle report: We have 1 loss on our side and 2 wounded I must say this was a lot better than the last time we faced the kobolds.

Melkor’s log 18th timber
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A freaking door…. Really. Well I am sure the next snobish overseer will use it for his room. just dump it at the stock piles for now.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Cool name for a door
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
but what’s this, a image of our royal shield, this artifact gets my approval.

Melkor’s log 19th timber
Another ambush, military kill those…3. That’s it! 3 kobolds, and they call that a ambush.

COME BACK YOU COWARDS.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Really, fleeing for 1 guy that doesn’t even have a weapon. God these kobolds are getting softer every passing ambush.

Melkor’s log 21st timber
Okay this is bullshit. Those kobolds are fleeing cowards they all just ran away. 2 we killed but the other one is hiding somewhere in our fort.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What tha hell are you doing in our caverns, no matter we will get you.
Apparently he fled into the cavern and ran from the map. Il just leave it there.
He will probably get killed by a cave dweller.

Melkor’s log 1st moonstone
And so summer ends and winter begins, and the ‘’mayor’’ thought it was a good time to prohibit gold items to be sold. As I look trough the stock I find no gold items. Really what’s the point.
Also the dwarf caravan survived the “ambush” and we are trading.

Melkor’s log 3rd moonstone
My god these guys are awesome. We got loads of metal bars and metal armor, for what?
Some crafts really why would you want that useless stuff.
We bought 20000 worth of metal. The next overseer will be busy, of course only if I can get all this hauling done.
Else he will be hauling for a year as well.

Melkor’s log 13th moonstone
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Look the “mayor” finally did something useful.

Melkor’s log 27th opal
The months are passing by without much happening, except for lots of hauling(I think I might even make it) till I hear of this message.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Hmm well that’s something new I guess.
As the months progress the end of the year of hauling is in sight. The military is training again and I put some of the crafters back to work. There is not much hauling left to do.

Melkor’s log 17th obsidian
A ambush of 5 kobolds. Our military will wipe them out
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This was just sad. The kobolds where killed and we have no dead or wounded.

Melkor’s log 1st granite
I look back at the fort. Yes I think, they will make it. There is just 1 more pile of stone to be dumped.
After that just look at the stocks to reclaim some more items
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I am pleased to say that all the goods from outside has been gathered. The next overseer can begin rebuilding all the workshops at the workshop room and rebuild the industry.
He can begin getting our military a better barracks and changing the training schedules a bit.
There still need to be haul a bit but that can be done in a month or so.
I haven’t touched the magma forges so it will be time they are put to work.
I haven’t found any ore but we have a lot of bars so we will be good for now.
All the dwarfs have spears for now but we have a great variety of weapons they can use.
Armor is a problem. We have enough breastplates and helms but little leg/shoe/hand ware. I have made some maps, you can find them under the H.
a burrow have been made to keep the citizens inside when we are attacked.
There is a shortage of logs, you could chop down the tree’s in the cavern.
There is a little concerned about the dwarf’s. they are getting Cave adapt. their getting irritated by the sun.
You don’t have to worry about coffins anymore.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This mass tomb has solved that problem. You still need to look at the levers, I haven’t touched any of them so ill leave that to my successor.

Well it’s time for me to leave this place. I am going back to the city. Probably won’t be able to rest for too long. I always get more jobs and I will need to leave to the next fort. There is just 1 other thing.
Do you remember urdim. You know the no hands guy well he couldn’t do anything anymore so I made him the broker so he will be able to do something.
Well of I go, back to where I came from. As I follow the path home I know 1 thing for sure.
this is a fort that I will remember.

well that was pretty fun
