I've finally picked up a profile picture for myself!

It's the (un)holy symbol of Bhaal, Lord of Murder. I cited it as best as I could in my personal text, but the character limit for it is really restrictive. I had to abbreviate "Forgotten Realms" to "FR" and had to use the word "image" instead of "profile picture", but I think I did adequately.

I'm not sure if I'll stick with it- it looked better on Google Images than it does now as my profile picture. What do you guys think?

After giving it some more thought, I've decided to switch my personal text to "Contrarian Extraordinaire".

I've been working on this for a couple of days. It isn't just a rehash of someone else's idea for once, as far as I'm aware.

Basically a battle royale, but each player gets assigned a random pokemon. They probably will actually BE that pokemon, on the grounds that adding trainers to this honestly feels weird to me because of reasons.

If pokemon has multiple forms (alolan or otherwise), one is chosen at random.

Each pokemon can only be used once each. Cross them off the list when they faint in other words. Multiple forms may technically allow for multiple uses, but each individual form still only spawns once. No manual respawning. (This is basically to ensure things are more interesting in the long term. Of course, that's if the game lasts that long.)

If the pokemon you get isn't fully evolved, scoring a KO may allow evolution. Evolution heals in this game and may provide some other small bonuses. Similarly, Pokemon with Mega Evolutions or Primal Reversions must earn them by scoring a KO. In addition to all this, scoring a KO earns a point. If a pokemon scores enough points, the player controlling it wins! The game may still continue, but winning Pokemon retire to live another day. If an evolved Pokemon faints, only the form it spawned as is crossed out.

Battling is relatively minimalistic, with pokemon being able to use any move they could learn. Yes, there's no 4 move limit. Make of that what you will.

Teamwork is allowed, but alliances must be officially declared. Note that no more than 3 players can form a permanent team to prevent individuals from being overwhelmed.

The dice a Pokemon rolls depends on its base stats. Depending on those it could roll larger/smaller dice, or simply receive a bonus or penalty.

There are 6 stats:

Survivability: This represents a Pokemon's ability to withstand taking damage. HP basically. Doesn't usually reduce or increase damage, but instead set a threshold. More anime logic than ironclad numbers, in other words.
Physical Attack: Higher rolls mean better attacks.
Physical Defense: Increases endurance against physical attacks.
Special Attack: Used for non-physical moves.
Special Defense: This defends against the above.
Speed: Makes you more likely to go first. Also slightly helps you to hit and dodge attacks.

Especially high results on Survivability or a defense roll may allow damage to be completely ignored. This is much more likely with an ineffective attack type.

Speaking of types, the usual weakness chart is in full effect, using the most recent changes.

As a balancing factor any moves that increase or decrease stats have less effect, and will decay slightly over time. Being able to swords dance three times to quadruple your attack and annihilate everything for the rest of the game isn't really fun for anyone. Stat decreases will last slightly longer.

Not all sheet information may be public. Hiding abilities seems quite tempting to me really. Still very much a work in progress.

You might want to take inspiration from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series (letting Pokemon have all of the abilities that they can (legally) have might result in some !!FUN!!, for instance (#BronzongOPOP)) or the tabletop Pokemon RPG.

But yeah, I'd be (very) interested.

What about Hidden Abilities, TM/HM moves, and egg moves?

Currently each pokemon gets one ability chosen at random Hidden abilities are possible. I might just give them all possible abilities though yeah. TM/HM moves are probably a no-no but that'd be irritating to enforce and probably nerf weaker pokemon most. And yeah legendaries are possible, which is honestly the main reason earning earning KO's causes retirement.

I actually totally forgot the tabletop system existed, so I'm definitely going to take a look.

Can an evolved Pokemon use the moves that its previous evolutionary form had access to?

Can we ask for a Pokemon from a specific generation/set of generations? Could I, for example, ask for a Pokemon that was introduced in Gen IV or earlier (I would still have to use the rules/moves/stats of/from the current generation, of course)? Can we ask for a Pokemon of a specific type (but not a specific pair of types)? Could I, for example, ask to be given a Grass type pokemon?

If a Pokemon could learn a move in a previous generation but can't learn it in the current generation, can it still use that move? What about event-only move and Pokemon combinations? Could an event Pikachu with Surf use egg moves that actual event Pikachus couldn't actually use due to not having them in the form that they were passed out in?

I recommend using Smogon and/or Bulbapedia as a source, by the way.

If I do the variant with trainers, everyone will get 3 pokemon probably. Alternatively, each player gets 3 "lives", with a different pokemon on each spawn. However I'd rather not limit player pool in that way.

No, you start as the form you start as. Regardless of which way spawns work, single stage pokemon(especially legendaries) have an advantage due to their natural power as opposed to stage one pokemon that evolve.

"But Person, it seems unfair that some people start stronger?" Yeah, that's why teams exist. If someone spawns as something blatantly unfair, that's life. I like the randomness, and players will probably find a way to compensate. (I may allow rerolls anyway to prevent any one player from being screwed over too much.)

"Why not just remove legendaries for balance then?" Nah, variety is the spice of life. That, and every story needs an underdog. Anyway, they probably won't overstay their welcome TOO much.

"Hang on, lots of pokemon can only live in water! How will that effect the game if some players can't fight each other?" Good question me! I'm putting together a map with plenty of water and rivers for aquatic pokemon to get around with. Other terrain will feature as well of course.

Egg moves are indeed a thing. 

No, they don't. Its exceedingly unlikely that such a thing would occur in the current system, especially near the start of the game. (There are 28 unown forms for instance, but they all share the same slot. You just get a random one.)

Event only moves are iffy. Probably yes though. Victini actually can't learn V-Create outside of events and that's stupid. Event pokemon will probably have restricted movesets, so no egg moves in that case.

This has been bugging me for awhile, so I'll just dump it in here for someone to potentially use.

I'll form the head! An experiment in collaborative mecha building.

We've all seen it. The heroes are up against a formidable enemy, and have to transform their robots into a limb to make a bigger robot. It may not make sense, but everyone loves it. It's great, and everyone wants to be the head.

Now then, I have a question for you.

What if those robots had to fuse together and fight without being an optimal spread of a head, body, 2 arms, and two legs?

If you want to know the answer as much as I do, then please run this game. Maybe PVP? Dunno.
