1) At least 8 hours between updates.
2) At least one or more players must have posted actions to update. (shouldn't be a problem)
3) Once 96 hours (4 days) have passed while you were GM, the next player becomes GM.
4) If you did not post any actions for 96 hours (1 GM period), your character is "inactive".
4a) Inactive characters follow the party, but don't do anything beyond what they have to.
4b) Posting an action removes the inactive status.
5) If you did not post any actions for 96 hours (2 GM periods total) while inactive, your character becomes "Suspended".
5a) The other players vote on a suspended character's actions.
5b) Posting an action removes the inactive status.
6) If you did not post any actions for 192 hours (4 GM periods total) while suspended, your character becomes "Suicidal".
6a) Suicidal characters do everything they can to die.
6b) Posting an action before death occurs removes the inactive status.
6c) Posting that you want to quit automatically puts your character into suicidal status, unless a suitable "retirement plan" immediately presents itself.
7) Not posting any
UPDATES while you are the GM counts as an extra GM period against becoming inactive, suspended, or suicidal.
Each player or GM must copy the most recent waitlist into their sign-up post when GM, and link to the most recent when passing on the mantle. This applies to the OP, too.
8a) GMs/players do not have to maintain the waitlist when not the GM.
8b) When a character dies, they are not automatically waitlisted, and the top player on the waitlist replaces them.
8c) New players are added to the end of the GM cycle, which is
before the current GM's next turn.
9) Players may keep track of each other's inactivity.
9a) If players cannot keep track but want to check, it is possible to view the last post in the thread by that player and check it's time and date.
10) All GMs must abide by these 10 rules and their subrules, and they are immutable. However, if they are vague in any way, the current GM's word is law until the next GM.
