(As mentioned before, I had some plans for an X-COM forum game. (That's right, no RTD, but the Forum games equivalent of roller's block didn't work out so I'm posting the idea here.)
Players are divided in two teams of three people each. One side plays as the aliens, the other side as secret organisations who have studied alien incursions for years. The exploratory time however, is over, and the invasion is about to start.
Earth is divided in multiple places. The humans bases are constructed in one of these spots, and each place might have it's own unique modifier. Each place has it's own Fear ,Faith and knowledge stat. Fear indicates how much a threat they think the aliens to be, Faith indicates how much they trust the human forces defending them and knowledge how much they actually know about what's going on.
-Canada
-America
-North Latin America
-South Latin America
-Europe
-North Africa
-South Africa
-Russia
-India
-China
-Japan
-Australia
-South-East Asia
Turns are always completed in the following order.
>Diplomacy
>Interception missions are launched
>Surviving alien mission are returned to base
>Construction/ Trade/ everything else
> New missions are launched
> Missions are discovered
Both missions are actually availble to both teams, but it is unlikely for the aliens to need to intercept a human mission, or the humans to do a strategic strike. It can be usefull though. Aliens can try to retrieve downed ships to deny the humans research material, and such
Available alien missions
-Resource gathering (Both construction materials and food)
-Knowledge gathering (Performing studies about the humans society)
-Strategic strikes (Taking out military post, kidnapping important people, stuff like that)
-Terror missions (attacking major population centers to inspire fear. (Seriously increases awareness))
-Base attacks (If someone knows another players base, he can attack it)
Human missions
-Interception missions (Intercepting aliens so that they can't do anything )
-Scavenge missions
-Investigation missions(Even if you come to late, you can learn things from the ashes they leave behind
-Reinforcement missions (If your faith in a region is high enough, you can order the construction of defenses and such)
- ase attacks (If someone knows another players base, he can attack it)
Every player starts with a single base, which is located on Earth. Players do not know the locations of other players bases. Construction and destruction of additionall bases is perfectly possible. Bases can be modified by the construction of buildings and such.

Human resources:
-Money (Gained by selling stuff and awarded monthly based on your progress)
-Common resources (Can be bought)
Alien resources (Note: If humans want to use alien tech, they need these to)
-Elerium 235 (High energydensity alien fuel. Used to power all techs, and can also be used as a high explosive. Needs to be shipped in from the alien homeworld)
-Alien alloys (High strength alloys. Need to be shipped in from the alien homeworld, or can be synthesized in the base with the correct techs)
-Common resources (Need to be scavenged from Earth. Can be bought/demanded as tribute if you have subjugated a human nation)
-Food (All sorts of biological matter(like cows and humans). Needs to be scavenged from Earth)
I'm going to need help for this one.
