A Miner Annoyance -
« on: October 30, 2007, 07:16:00 pm »

When digging underground, miners sometimes inexplicably stop performing dig jobs. This occurs regardless of where the job to be done is or what nature of digging is to be done. I have encountered this bug repeatedly, but can't reliably reproduce it. Anyone else have similar problems with bum miners?

do they come back to them?  If so, check their job lists, they might be getting a drink or food.  Which is normal.

They read as having 'No Job'. They're not eating or drinking, they just stopped doing work in places they could reach. It was strange, and happened in a couple test games I ran.

Stranger still is the test game that I just run, where I encountered no such problems. It could be an intermittent path-finding error of some kind.

This happens to me when I'm digging channels and they get stuck on an island (space or water, figurative island).  I gotta dig a path for another dwarf to get below him, then undermine the square.  That gets him loose.

Don't know if that's what's happening to you, but check all your paths and consider digging him an escape ramp if needed.
