Not sure if this has been posted, but this interview with Milton Friedman might be good for getting started understanding free market economics:

There are a wealth of other interviews and so on with him that provide straight forward explanations of what his ideas are all about.

I think it is important to go back to the sources whenever possible, as much of popular discussion on economics has almost nothing to do with the ideas and their viability, but rather is rooted in pathos arguments and reactions.
