It depends on the definition of 'welfare' capitalism. Personally, I'm a libertarian, so let em compete! Realistically a purely deregulated economy will fail due to the ammorality of human beings, so I support a mostly deregulated economy with just enough regulation to prevent economic blackmail and to support entrepreneurs and the lower classes (via assistance getting educated, not welfare).
Well then, how do you feel about unmarried mothers? Surely it's better that someone raise the children properly rather than a mother who has to work two jobs to support her family. That does nothing for society as a whole.

No using. That's not what freedom is for.

What a confusing and ill defined system of words.

It's simply preposterous. The good thing is that most people don't have to think about any of it too hard.

That does nothing for society as a whole.
This was my point. Regardless of whether or not it was a good idea, having improperly raised children is bad for society.

Socialism has a few different definitions, I think.  For instance, Marx regarded it as a stepping stone to communism - a strongly state controlled classless economy, which was necessary since the people in it were raised as greedy capitalists.  The idea is that the people in this socialist society would then be able to move towards "communism", which would be similar but require no state intervention.

However, most people define it differently.  Depending on which definitions you pick, you could regard socialism and communism as being virtually identical or very different...

Can we just get like Aqizzar to come in here and tell us what his definition for it is?

I respect him enough to say that if he thinks it, it is good enough for the forum.

Can't we just agree that all of them don't work?

We could, but if we agree on things then the thread doesn't progress, and we end up talking about random stuff.

My definition is "Socialism" and "Communism" and "Capitalism", especially on the Internet, are such thoroughly loaded terms that they don't have or need a definition.  Certainly they can describe ideas in an academic sense, but the real world is so full of nuance that trying to pack even individual systems within nations into one label is utterly meaningless.  China, Cuba, Cambodia, Venezuela, and Angola are all nominally "Communist".  How many gigantic differences can you find between their economies, and the USSR for that matter?
