I have a mound of graph paper a mile high with plans for a fortress revolving around so many of the announced features. Bring it on!

I'm considering taking one of my unrealized megaprojects and doing them in honor of the release when it comes out :P

Perhaps an underwater dome city... that would be fun if a vampire immigrated in but I didn't find out until after I sealed the doors :P

Oh the pains of waiting.

Toady, this is the most awesome game I've ever played, keep on rocking!

So according to the updates, today should be the last of the working with sponsorship stuff... wonder how much other stuff is required before release? *vibrates*

t is not surprising that the anxiety in the forum would rise to the stratosphere.
Sure, but I still do not see any reason to be THAT worked up. Just after release it wil be hell mess of major bugs, no Dwarf TheRapist and all of that. So I will download it in about two months from initial release - this is my estimate when decently playable version will come out.
In meantime I can look forward to hilarious tales from people that actually want play ASAP. Masochists.

I'm pretty sure it's the SDL stuff and some more optimizations at least.

If Toady is working on optimization, then I'm more than willing to wait patiently.  I'd rather have a smooth running game with as few bugs as possible than something that he felt rushed to release.

Upcoming release will use hexagonal tiles instead of squares; Toady decided to switch over at the last minute, so we'll have to wait until he is done with that.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

I'm 90% sure Toady would mention this us. Nice try though.
I'll put up with ASCII update till tilesets cacthup. I don't use TheRapist, but I will admit to using runesmith for adventure mode.

I am hopeful that Ironhand or Phoebus are ahead of the storm by creating tiles for the announce creatures already. I know Mayday has basically given up on trying to wrangle everything.

[...] their fort crashed every time a Necromancer came near their refuse stockpile. [...]

Do you mean you put your dead dorfs into the refuse stockpile?
What a respectfull man toward the deads -.-

I normally have a legendary catacombs for my dwarfs (for the elders, first settlers and nobles moslty, the commoners/migrants/low-life/useless dorfs are buried in a specific area of the mine, dedicated for burial).
But i already planned a specific unaccessable tomb for my soldiers. Wouldnt want a necro to put his evil hands on some trained warrior's corps.
