Next time my computer stops working, I'm gonna accuse it of having the qualities of Max White, and then I'm gonna claim that there's no relation.

That said, my brother, who is gay, gets upset when I use the word in a negative way, and then uses it himself the same way.

See, he wont care, that is his point. What you should do is call it Max White for being slow and refusing to do what it should to work properly.

Well ok, if your intent isn't to offend, then I am not offended. Although taking context into account, it would appear your intent is to try and offend to make a point that I would be offended. So can you honestly claim you don't mean to offend?

... Look, you aren't gay.  Who cares about "should and shouldn't?"  It does offend.

Thus why you still shouldn't use the word in such a way. Still does not mean to imply intent, or that this phrased is charged with hate, once again what I am debating, and anything you nail on the side is your own business.

No, it obviously doesn't imply intent.

I believe it still constitutes hate speech, which is independent of intent.

Intent is important, but it's not the only category a word is judged upon. Words have many properties and any one of them can be offensive.

In this case it's the word's origins.

I'm saying the intent is to degrade my computer by associating it with something that is assumed to be inherently bad.

Well, if you are sure that your not just looking for a fulcrum for your argument in this fun little debate, I have no problem with that.

Why did you not answer me when I asked that?

Okay, the point is you ether have lower self esteem then others or care about others thoughts about you less then most.

If somebody doesn't mean to offend me, why should I feel offended? Japa has said that she isn't using this term because she thinks any less of me, so why do I care?

I can call you all sorts of insults without meaning to offend you. That does not mean they should not offend you.

Japa is male.

The avatar is confusing the people that did not know him before it apparently.

I'm not explicitly trying to offend you, I'm just trying to offend something else by comparing it with you.

As for pronouns, anything's fine as long as you don't invent something like hir.
