Furthermore, I don't really think some sort of idealized "true friend" exists.  There's always a chance of defection or choice to disbelieve, and I guess "coming out" is one of the ways in which friendship is tested--but we never know if a friend rings true or not.

I'd say "true friend", much like "true love", is a fictional construct.  "Friend" is a label, subjectively applied, not an objective trait.  Also, relationships are not static.  There are no unbreakable bonds we can use to differentiate "true friend" from "friend", assuming that's the qualifier.  Unbroken does not imply unbreakable, but even transient things can have value.

All social constructs are fictional, in a sense. Where we draw the lines between different types of relationships, and how we categorize them, is quite arbitrary. This doesn't mean the distinctions are useless, just that they aren't written in stone somewhere, and are very malleable.

Why do people need something like physical proof that you are gay? Seriously, if you say it, and if you mean it, true friends should know about it...

Wait, what?  What kind of 'proof' could they possibly need?

I think this comes from a general human tendency to insist that something has be visible before it's serious. I've experienced that with learning disabilities - "But you don't drool/babble/count on your fingers, you can't have learning disabilities! I don't believe it." and religion, "But you're such a normal person, do you really believe X?". It is pretty rage-inducing.

Oh come on, people (with people being Eagleon and G-flex). You can't just do that thing where you quote me and say something tangentially related but not really in any way in opposition to the quote. It's confusing. I spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out in what way you disagreed with me before realizing there wasn't any. It's not nice at all. :<

I didn't agree with you. If anything a homosexual society would probably be a lot more peaceful and gender-equal, as well as maintaining its population at a more sustainable level. Maybe.

In any case, I just don't think it's a good idea to tamper with stuff we have no proof is harmful or disadvantageous besides from the standpoint of social pressures. Reproduction is one non-social reason people try to argue for tampering, and it's never made sense to me, since even though I'm with another male I still want kids of my own, and will probably seek out a surrogate when the time is right, assuming we're still together. I think it doesn't fully register with some people that we're not another species, which was the reason for my post :P

I'm quite surprised if you can't figure out how what I said relates to what you said.

If you want to give people "choice", and are capable of giving your kid some sort of designer sexual orientation, making them strictly heterosexual or bisexual is an extremely silly thing to do, especially since binary sexual orientation is barely even naturally-occurring in the first place.

If, as is commonly argued, sexual orientation is not a personal choice, then why does it matter if your parents can and do choose?  Does it matter what that choice is?  Would it be wrong to make a child heterosexual so they don't have to deal with the bigotry?  Would it be wrong to make a child homosexual so they do, and perhaps become stronger for it?  Is choice somehow less moral than chance, and if so why?  This is all from the standpoint that it's not a choice (assumed in that first bit).

No, I don't think you were talking morality.  They just seem like interesting questions.

Couldn't we all just choose our life partner in peace, without gender getting in the way, and if one person happens to be more prone to a specific sex that it doesn't mean any more then if they have a preferred eye colour? *Sob* WOULD YOU JUDGE A MAN BASED ON THE EYE COLOUR OF THE PERSON HE WANTED TO BE WITH?

Alright, I have had my fun, I'll stop being melodramatic.

I honestly don't feel it's either a choice or a gene, my life(My experiences through life) has somehow shaped me to find both males and females somewhat attractive and desireable for a possible relationship. I think that is a quite simple thing. I could probably even become either hetero or homo through an experience that would make the gender I would lose attraction appear to me as something vile.

It feels like food, I didn't like cheese or liver very much as a kid, I really like it today, on the other hand I loved potatomash, I hate that stuff today. That's how I view sexuality.

Also at Max, I would actually look a bit extra for blue eyes, dunno why but I just feel that way. I don't hate people with other eyes though and atleast 2 exes had brown eyes :b

It would be nice but the world doesn't work that way so talking about how great it would be otherwise isn't constructive.

Mmm, blue can be very nice, especially with pale skin, and long, black straight hair. It's a winning combo! Although my personal taste goes to green eyes. I also have green eyes, so chances are my kids will have green eyes, and soon we can start wiping out all overs without green eyes, leaving only the perfect race! MUHAHAHAHAHA!

I don't have any problems with gays, but it does piss me off if they don't take no for an answer and get all stalkery.

Hell, all 3 of the serious relationships that I have had were with bi women. I wasn't even looking for that, it just happened to work out that way.

I've got nothing against the straights, but it does piss me off how they think we are a lot more into them then we are.

I don't hate people, but it does piss me off when they notice me spying on them from the bushes.
