Theoretically, communism is one of the most efficient forms of government. Does communism seem like it glorifies freedom?

How about instead of having children raised by their parents, we send all children at the age of three to a centralized child-processing plant that gives them the same education and provides each of them the same opportunity as the next? Sounds efficient to me. Kinda takes freedom away from a lot of people, though... At least when versed to what we are used to now.

i'm a dirty commie and even i disagree with the first sentece. and yeah, it glorifies social security, not efficiency.
when we're talking about efficiency we must first define an objective, what do you want your nation efficient at? worldwide domination? social security?  preserving the freedom of your inhabitants?

when it comes to the second, i disagree that it takes away the freedom of people, besides taking the parents freedom to educate their children, it grants the children all equal opportunities, and if done right, frees them of any bias their parents might impose on them by offering them a varied eduction

i'm not advocating it, i could be pointing out its flaws too, but i disagree that it is against freedom. also, it's terribly unfeasible, try selling this idea to a father or mother

edit:also, i'm confused, are we derailing this?

Over the past century (or more?), capitalist economies have proven superior to command economies.  The important question is not whether pure capitalism is better/worse than pure socalism/communism/whatever, but what combination is best.  AFAIK Cuba and North Korea are the only remaining (nearly) pure command economies, and I don't think much of the world envies them.

Yes, apparently.  This line of discussion should probably be a separate thread, though the OP left the title awfully vague.  I've been living under a rock for the past decade, but I'm still pretty sure there's no grand consensus that homosexuality is the big issue of today.  :P

We aren't. The topic was self-derailing because there was little if anything to discuss.

I'm also pretty sure the OP is okay with this.

It does make for one weird thread though.

No using. That's not what freedom is for.

No.

To further clarify, I believe that this thread was made as a way to consolidate the argument threads into one thread, so that when one argument seemed over we could start another without starting a new thread.

The first argument was over before it really begain, so when this thread started to die I changed the argument.

This started with an argument? I thought this was the official 'hug a minority' thread.

It started with the intent for people to start debating, but since nobody here dislikes LGBT people, it kind of fell flat. So basically there was never any actual argument.

I'm bisexual, so I guess I'm okay with the LGBT crowd.

I guess.
I'm gay, so I guess I'm okay with you.

Maybe.
Not necessarily a given :P It's weird how hostile some gay people I've met have been to any claims of bisexuality. Almost as weird as people discounting or ignoring it as an option completely. Gets to the point where sometimes I'll just say I'm gay to dampen the confusion and awkward questions, since I already have someone and I'm not interested in being hit on. Could that be defined as closet straight? O.o

*shrug*

And there's always the accusation for women that if they're bi/anything else but straight, then they're just faking it because it's popular.  Or, you know, that if you're bisexual then you can just act like you're straight, and everything's fine for you.

I've been caught accidentally staring before, so no, I gotta say... it's not like it's something one can just turn on and off at a whim >_>

I am fine with anything, as long as they don't shove it down my throat or anybody elses.
And hey, even that's not a problem as long as it's consenting adults.

Shush.  Clearly society is better placed to judge your sexuality than you.  I mean, we just know.
