What is more important to you - Freedom or efficiency?

It is security that is normally the counterbalance to freedom.

I blame the media. That and because fear is a quick, easy way to convince people of something.

O O

....

What makes you think it is efficiency? Cause that sounds like it would not effect freedom at all.

I'm bisexual, so I guess I'm okay with the LGBT crowd.

I guess.

Theoretically, communism is one of the most efficient forms of government. Does communism seem like it glorifies freedom?

How about instead of having children raised by their parents, we send all children at the age of three to a centralized child-processing plant that gives them the same education and provides each of them the same opportunity as the next? Sounds efficient to me. Kinda takes freedom away from a lot of people, though... At least when versed to what we are used to now.

That's a pretty extreme example there...

And I'd really hesitate to call it efficient except in a "bad scifi movie robot" sense. Efficiency is doing no more or no less than necessary, so I'd say the most efficient education is one that is specifically catered to the child with regards to ability and future career.

No using. That's not what freedom is for.

No... No it is not. I think you are the first person who I have ever heard say that. (and was not a lolo love comie.)

For the other example... Maybe. Maybe. That still seems like it offers a better step up in 'security' then 'efficiency' I think fqllve said it well.

Efficiency is doing no more or no less than necessary

It depends, an engineer often looks at the world and thinks how it can be further improved in the name of efficiency. Think about it; is doing more than needed in one lifetime worth it to let its posterity live better?

I think he meant from a pure standpoint on effort.

Yeah.

Necessary as up to the point where your returns start diminishing. If there is an overall net gain, then it is efficient.

Yeah, I guess that was a bit of a poor example since there's so much speculation on it.

"A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people."

It seems rather efficient to me (its supposed to get shit done faster), but we all know how poorly it does in real world applications. (which is why I said 'theoretically' earlier)

Each and every economic type has a claim to the most efficiency.

Capitalism for instance says it is the most efficient because the competing forces in it make so any inefficacy is squished out.
