It's scientific.
I think that's an older version of the game, the game I remember playing had more research results.

It was something like...
Our research has produced:
550 cans of pet food
610 whale burgers
70 cosmetic products
1 research paper

Adventure mode DF?

Start off with spearman and swimming, then try your luck at the nearest ocean.

So tempted to make this game. So tempted.
Do it! There can be no rest without a game of whales and harpoons.
Ahab, the game.
Or maybe just 'Ahab'
Couldn't find it within the first few pages of search, link?

No link, thats a proposed game title, to the previous post.

One of my first considerations was that, but it sounded more like Beowulf than whaling, still worth doing, though.

Heres how you make an anti-whaling game.

1.Make a Whaling Game
2.Let Peta find out about it.
3.Have them make a rip-off of it.
4.???
5.Profit!

This sounds cool, but what are the odds of actually finding a whale?

More importantly, what are the odds of that whale not ripping your spine from your body, and then strangling you with it somehow?

About the same odds of killing a cyclops with a sock (so, good).

Or decapitating a bronze colossus with a fluffy wambler...

Wait, is the cyclops the one holding the sock? Or maybe the sock is stuffed with fluffy wamblers?

Cthulhu, you have a huge white beard and a skipper's hat in my mental picture of you now.

So, the temptation to make this game still hasn't gone away in the morning. Let's see if I can prototype something before I lose steam...

Huh, it took only two to bring down a whale in object testing, even with the accident of putting a dwarf on the whale's team(all GM speardwarves/swimmers with steel). The dwarf who brought down the whale drowned, though.

Then I put a !!whale!! in the magma. He drowned.

Yeah, I made the mistake of making my whale a grand-master swimmer, so it got a bunch of attacks for every one whaler attack.  They died.

Heres my idea of 'Ahab'

You start in a tutorial with a ship and small crew learning mechanics:

Ship tactics; have your crew take different positions to do different things and respond to weather and environment.
Spearing; how to aim for whales/other prey, using harpoons with different abilities
Movement/Navigation, etc.
Selling/recruiting in towns.

After bagging 2 whales, you meet the great white whale, which destroys your ship and all your crew and leaves you maimed.  You start back in town on a dinky ship with just enough to run it, and a new stat called Madness.  Madness is a good/bad stat which as it goes up gives the captain more strength and allows the ship better survival in adverse conditions, but as it goes up the types of crew you can recruit changes and the events that happen run more to insanity itself.

You then scour the seas hunting and bagging whales and other sea creatures, slowly upgrading your ship again and recruiting.  You eventually begin encountering mythical sea creatures and bagging them too, with new whale types appearing.  Eventually new areas open up, which contain flying whales and ghost whales.  You eventually plunge into hell itself where your ship must tread on lava (and any crew that fall in die, of course) hunting red lava whales and demon whales (and a host of other creatures).  At the end, you confront the great white whale at the edge of creation, where an epic duel occurs (more epic if Ahab is completely mad by then and all his crew have abandoned him or died).

I think that would work.
