Objects drawing attention
« on: March 26, 2011, 01:19:37 pm »

Is there any way to make a building draw attention of nearby dwarves?
Like, if you have a normal table, a chair, a bed and an artifact coffer, as far as I experienced, they'd give their attention equally/random to those objects.
No matter if most of them are trash while one item has the worth of a kingdom.

Would be nice if everything with a quality modifier had some sort of area of attention-drawing depending on their value.

This already happens.  Dwarves don't stand around admiring a normal chair, but if it's a MASTERWORK or Artifact chair, they get happy thoughts when they admire it.

DFTalk 11 had Toady mentioning something about planning to give Dwarves a list of favorite places that they go when they need cheering up.  Their faves would be based of their likes and dislikes, as well as the quality of said object.

ok but lets say if we had a masterpiece table and an artifact throne. Does the throne draw more attention or is it random?

Hmm... well I suppose that's not really determinable, since the Dwarf would not have a memory of "He admired a mediocre table", only the nice one.

Two different items, they would admire a fine table, and a fine chair.

Yeah but... hmm I suppose someone could do some testing, but how could you tell when someone OVERLOOKS an item, and why?

I missed that part. That's awesome. I fully support any feature to make dwarves more dynamic.

I think dwarves see items in the adjacent squares to them. That's why I place my artifacts into places with most traffic where everyone goes past them.
