The internet has been decimated by enormous bot nets that installed themselves on the servers of the largest companies. millions have disconnected from the internet, relying only on their local networks for news and information.
It has been discovered that there are hackers on your network.
Rather than give up, as many have before you, you have all decided to fight them to the end, and later on take the whole internet back from chaos.
But first things first: lets review what you can do:
- Install an OS with its pros and cons
- Windows XP, Vista, 7, and older versions (ME, NT, server 2003, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, ... you know what I mean)
- Mac OS (X and so on)
- Linux
- Ubuntu
- Debian
- Fedora
- Others
- Solaris UNIX and others
- DOS
- Install and use software
- Antivirus
- Firewall
- RegEdit
- Internet Browser
- etc.
- Use terminal and commands
- Change hardware
- Do role-specific actions

Some of the players will be hackers, some will be anti-hackers. When applying you may sign up for either team, but I might have to force a side to someone to keep balance.
All actions will be basic 1-6 rolls, plus: 7 - it runs perfectly and even speeds up your computer (+1 next 2 rolls); 8 - your action targets multiple computers; 0 - you mess up your computer pretty badly (-1 on your next 2 rolls); -3 - your computer burns up and is no longer usable (this may spell failure for some professions).
If your profession allows it you may PM other players (but you must also include me in the recipients)
To sign up, just say, "IN" here and send me a PM of who you want to be (or say "any" for any role)*******
Some notes:
- you do not know the other players' aligmnents unless you deduce it yourself
- you may PM each other only when the game starts (and don't forget to include me in the BCC)
- anything else I missed? Ask a question in the thread!

Some tips:
- Wide-range attacks (generic ones) will work much better on popular software, while local (directed and specific) attacks will be held back more with usual software than lesser-know soft.
- Hackers (white and black hat) might find out alignment if they probe successfully. Other possible results of a successful probe might bring antivirus/software/profession info (but note that this is fairly rare)
- You can PM each other (and add me as a BCC), so make use of that!

For any virus or program writing, these are the rolls that I do:
- Make the virus/program - successful if 4 or above.
- Send the virus/program to target computer - dependin on rating of firewall*
- Antivirus check - depending on rating of anivirus*
Server rolls for finding activity: I random.org to find a number out of 50. You are found out for activity it it's prime. If it's 1 your IP is blocked for 3 turns.
*Rolls based on software rating go basically like this: for example, if Norton has a 4 (out of 5) star rating, then (6-rating, or in this case 6-4=2), is the lowest number you can roll and not detect a virus. Removing viruses and other threats is a minimum of 4 on a roll.
