The raw files and folders.
« on: March 24, 2011, 07:27:30 pm »

I have another question. (I seem to ask quite a lot. Interesting, because I hardly ever have problems modding.) If I put the raw files in folders within raw-objects will it read them? For example, if I place all the creature files in raw-objects-genericfoldercontainingcreatures, will it recognize them?

But if you put them in files named "item_I_Got_This_From_Genesis.txt" it'll still pick them up...

No.

Darn. I was hoping to get some organization going on. Too bad.

Alright, I have another question, but I don't feel like it needs a whole new topic.

For the tissue templates, does the ..._TEMPLATE] part need to be there? For example, if I took the tag--

[TISSUE_TEMPLATE:SKIN_TEMPLATE], and changed it to--

[TISSUE_TEMPLATE:SKIN], would it work? (Assuming I also changed the creature skin definitions to match.)

The notation stuff isn't strictly necessary.  You can call it whatever you want, but with a system as spaghettied as the raw files are, those "_TYPE" notes could be the difference between the game working and everything blinking.

Seriously, there is SKIN_TEMPLATE, SKIN_TISSUE.... all different kinds that could be simplified to just "SKIN", if you think about it.

It's not there for the game, it's there for the person reading the raws (unless that's what you're saying...?). There are some duplicated names (the tissue and material templates have a lot of them), but for the most part things are named in a way that makes it clear what sort of object they are.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
