If I told you that you were punny could I borrow your flag?
Often when working near ANY school, the damn kids take my flags. Then they proceed to pretend they're air traffic controllers, (you all know what I'm talking about)
Would it be illegal for me to dress up as a member of your profession and go around messing with people though confusing and inappropriate application of the Stop/Slow sign?
Depending on where this is, yes. You'd need a permit to disrupt traffic. If you disrupt traffic in a way that is hazardous and you're caught, then it's a serious offense. If I remember a story correctly: some drunk once went through a work zone tossing channeling devices off the road and got a few years for it.
Then again, I also heard a story that flaggers in the US get paintball guns and shoot cars that run their stop signs. Stories are stories.
How often do you actually use flags when flagging?
I don't know about other flagging companies, but this is the proper use of flags:
They're attention grabbers on prewarning signs, tripods and windmasters. I've never seen any other practical use for them. The flaggers themselves would usually carry an LED strobe wand for low light, (or foggy.) situations.
I frown upon any flagger who pretends their wand is a lightsaber.
If you find out that a speeding driver does know the times, do you slow them down?
I slow traffic down if they're going at LUDICROUS speeds or if there are workers on the road. Subjectively judging a vehicles speed by eye alone when you're on the road is guess work unless I have a long distance to make a determination, (or a signboard with radar gun attached which tells me their speed...)
(...Which I've never had, cheap ass company)
