Do Sun Berries Exist?
« on: March 24, 2011, 10:50:46 am »

As the title says.  I've embarked on a joyous wild tropical freshwater swamp, and my herbalist is decidedly not gathering sunberries.

I've also noticed a distinct lack of sun berries since 0.31.21 in elf caravans.

Through my own inattentiveness, I completely failed to notice a lack of sun berries until this topic pointed it out, at which point I thought "oh yeah, there haven't been any sun berries, have there?".

[GOOD] and [EVIL] plants other than grass and trees don't seem to show up in the current version.

As an extra question, can you mod the frequency that a plant appears?

Thought so, but too lazy to browse raws right now.  I may just make sunberries anywhere, remove the seeds (to compensate) and make them low frequency.

I also have a thought brewing in my mind, to make poison gauntlets.  These would take steel, or other, and combine it with a special plant powder to make poison steel.  These could be crafted into gauntlets, so that when wrestling your dwarf just has to hold the goblin and it will apply necrosis to the location.  Ideally, this would be for adventurer mode, where you can wrestle more readily and more specifically.  Grab a neck and watch it rot off, leaving the head rolling away.

Inorganic syndroms don't work on contact right now. The gauntlets would have to somehow melt and enter the bloodstream, or boil and be breathed in.

Really?  Damn...  What about coverings?  Like if you dumped poison powder on a tile, got the gauntlets messy, and then equiped them?  I don't think that contaminants on an item count as contact, but, meh...

Poisoned steel menacing spikes?

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

I still haven't tried a joyous wilds for the delicious sunberries. I'm still stuck in the past (playing .18), so I may have to make my next go at one of these locations.

Good/evil trees aren't showing up either.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

The grass has been horribly broken since I ever noticed it being in the game.  Anyone else seen the "striped fields" where there are 2 biomes together in an area?

Why are stripes "horribly broken"?
