Running Out of Megabeasts
« on: March 24, 2011, 12:46:47 am »

So I finally have an adventurer that can do some quests where it only freezes occasionally instead of all the time. I've done a series of quests and now im killing megabeasts. First goblins an dhuman bandits, then an ettin.. then a titan. then another titan... then a roc.. and just then, a dragon. If I keep this up, winning, will I eventually run out of megabeasts, and not see any when I come back in fortress mode?

Edit: And now a hydra. I don't remember these things being NEARLY this common in fortress mode.

You'll have to kill a hell of a lot to run out. Besides, one of them will probably get a lucky shot on you, killing you instantly.

Well, I have a posse of like 10 guys with me, all soldiers [What can I say, when I was used to bandits and it went ''Go take on a titan'', I got nervous.] and they seem pretty adept at murdering everything. Infact, I've only last hit a titan and the Roc. They stole the rest of my kills. Glorywhores. :(

Is there a way to kill them off without doing it myself? Using stong, legendary beasts is apparently not going to work.

Then the RNG will, some time, make the beast push them aside so it can get you riiigghhhhttt where it wants you.

I'm begining to lose faith. Just fought a savannah titan, this one shot fire. I took a fireball in the face, slashed it's leg off, it fell, my guys all crowded around to try and take my glory, I decapitated the thing and checked my injuries...

Not even a scratch, from a fireball to my face. How are they supposed to kill my henchmen when they can't even touch us? Well, most of us. Two of my guys are walking around dragging their intestines.

Try dropping your shield and turning combat preferences to "stand ground", if you're interested in dying epically.  Or just fight a dragon without a shield, that should let you melt.

I don't know about the latest versions, but in 31.18 getting hit by dragonfire made practically all of your fat start melting immediately.

Yeah, I'm currently building the fortress. And no, my temperature is on. I fought one dragon already, but he didn't even breath fire at me.

Try creating a pocket world with 10,000 megabeasts. I did that a while back thinking that maybe this would cause my fort to get attacked by lots of megabeasts, which it didn't really, and then later abandoned the fort.

So I decide to try out adventure mode in this world and I could barely walk 2 tiles in any direction without stumbling upon a lair of some sort.

I manage to track down my old fort and scavenge an adamantine battle axe or two, and I go around kicking ass for a while until I decide to actually check out one of the lairs.

Well, I walk into the first random lair and turns out it had like 10 dragons in it. Amazingly I managed to kill maybe 6 or 7 of them (no doubt the adamantine battle axe helped quite a bit) but finally one of the remaining dragons managed to bite me in half.

So if you're feeling a bit lacking in megabeasts, try creating a pocket world with 10,000 of them. They'll have some serious population density and housing problems, adding to the fun. Never knew dragons could be so chummy.
