Happens with reasonable frequency, I'd bet.

I'm just waiting until we get some militant atheist parents who turn their children to religion. That will be the height of comedy.

Oh, yeah, that'll be me. I dislike people who are openly religious. See, I said openly, because I don't hate people just for being religious. So don't be hatin' on me. As (Someone) once said (I think, maybe I'm just making this up), "I don't care what religion my neighbors are, as long as I don't have to know about it." I fall into that category. And, I think it is entirely reasonable to convert my future children to Atheism, as many parents already convert their children.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

That could easily be turned around, and is. There are plenty of people who don't have a problem with atheists as long as they don't know they're atheists. There are plenty of people who don't have a problem with homosexuals as long as they don't know they're homosexuals. People should be open with their beliefs, they just shouldn't try to force them on others.

And you don't really have to convert children to atheism. We're all born atheists.

I don't have a problem with straight people as long as I don't know they're straight.

...Monosexuals are weird.

I didn't have much of a choice. Having polish roots and growing up with your grandmas and uncles stories of how they have been fighting the devil night after night, kinda makes your 'default mode' a believer.
I didn't have much choice either. Religion just never came up during my childhood. To me God was always some vague concept from movies that I lost interest in before even Santa Claus.

We never get a choice in what we believe until adolescence, really. That's why it's so common for people to reevaluate their position around that age.
I guess you could call me an agnostic. Believeing or not, it has no impact on my life. Believing in god, just made me more miserable, powerless and reinforced me in my victimhood. I respect other peoples religion, as long as they don't go around shoving it down other peoples throat.

I remember getting in an argument with my uncle about faith and me saying "I have faith in people", to which he answered "Well, then you're about to get disappointed".
And while he got proven right most of the time, I still believe that there are people out there, which are worthy to have faith in.
My habit of idealizing people, especially women, may stem from a "religious hole" left behind from the times I was a believer.

I dislike people who are openly religious.

Does that mean, in your ideal world, people would not be allowed to show their religious inclinations??

I think he means that in his ideal world, people would choose not to, because they wouldn't see a need to.  No need to paint him as some bizarre authoritarian.

I believe you give others too much credit. Bizarre authoritarians are what many people would become if they did what they said in a religious debate. At least if they say things without thinking about them.

Well, arguing against someone who disagrees with you tends to send you further towards the opposite extreme. People don't actually believe a lot of what gets said in religious debates, humans are just really shitty at building bridges.

There are exceptions though...

Failure to think leads to inane statements.  Who knew?  :)

Man. Don't you watch movies? Intuition is clearly superior to well-reasoned and deep analysis. Snap judgments are always right.

The whole idea behind that though is that intuitive judgments become accurate with large amounts of experience. People who are already good are better when they trust their initial judgments.

It isn't true for something you're a novice in.

Right, and lets admit it, no one is good at thinking.
