Since the sad thread has been discussing this, I figured it might as well have a topic. Not going to drag the entire argument so far here, but people more or less started listing off what each person did when it came to discoveries.

Nah, it's more along the lines of natural selection. They can help weed out trolls.

And if no one wants to discuss, that's fine, the sad thread derail was just annoying me.

It isn't just the internet either. Religion is one of the few things people are more than willing to get into screaming matches with complete strangers about in the real world.

So I suppose no one wants to talk about math and magnets? Medicine, agriculture?

You know, the last thread we had on religion didn't end horribly. It was actually pretty civilized throughout most of it.

As an atheist, I don't think that religion has any inherent negative effects on scientific advancement. And in some cases it can have positive effects. There's nothing about religion that says it ever even has to enter the realm of science. In fact, the thing that most commonly does conflict with science, mythologizing, is becoming less and less a part of religion. And sometimes people can be driven to scientific study so that they can better understand their creator's mind.

That is a great thing to say.

I vote the thread should be locked so we can end on that note.
