I enjoy torturing my PC by draining the magma sea off the map. :)
So far haven't used the magma for anything else.

Used to be that I set a cats life span to 1 year, so that any kittens born on my map would die as soon as they grew up.
Then I removed their brains in the raw and had all cats suffocate as soon as they entered the map.

I found in the newest version you can stop them from adopting dwarves, without loosing their ability to kill vermin. Now I keep 1 or 2 alive and butcher the rest, like most other animals.

....They just refuse to stay down unless butchered, in which case their skins will haunt you until you subdue and tan them. Never has legendary butcher and legendary tanner seemed so valueable as in this release.

Is there any way to make a living creature act like a structure?, say a mod that allows installation of (or innate) beehives into war animals, such as dogs? So when they bark they shoot bees at you?

Holy crap! ROFL oh man that would be amazing. I'll get right on it, but I think the best that could be done is making bees bullets and moding the dogs tongue or some such to be a gun that fired said bee bulltets. Then add a syndrome to the bullets that acts like a bee sting.

One of the dwarfs walked in front of Thor to get a better view of the prye, and Thor kicked him irritably into the middle of the flames, which made Thor feel slightly better and made all the dwarfs feel much worse.

I was playing a game yesterday. I was preparing my defenses with he usual setup of puppies tethered at the entrances to my courtyard for ambush detection, and several more in it to slow down the invaders while I responded. I then realized what I was doing when I looked at my border collie.
I laughed and continued anyway.
As for cats, I have never gone more than a few years in a fort and don't bring cats on embark, so they have never been a problem for me.

Instead of slaughtering dogs, I make them war dogs, cage them, and release them when goblins breach my outer defense.

When you send the dwarf to pull the lever, you intone "Release the hounds", don't you.

Reminds me of a quote from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar:

Pretty much covers the desensitization issue, plus what to say when releasing war dogs.
