Zero embark points challenge!

Exactly what it sounds like. Are you dwarf enough to take the challenge?

Interesting.. but.. how are you able to get some pickaxes for digging or axes for wood?

Trade for them. Gather plants/beat animals to death for food/materials. If you also start with a wagon and wagon pullers, you can use those as well.

Been discussed.  We all basically decided "It's possible, but there's no purpose.  You're just loitering for a year until the first caravan without gaining anything."  The ultimate decision is the lowest embark cost you can reasonably achieve is 1 anvil and 1 copper ore, or 2 if you consider training axes for woodcutting to be an exploit.  Any less, and you're just wasting time waiting on a caravan.

Take wagon apart and use it to make a carpenters and an axe. From there go to work deforesting the map and everyone else works herbalism. Butcher the wagon pullers for more food, and some material to work with. 2 leather bags for seeds, and a bone crossbow + some bolts to start with. Go hunting from there. 0 point embarks are actually pretty fun, and not that hard, unless you are in an undead area, or someplace with some nasty widlife.

I usually assign 1 person to herbalism though.  Instead of harvesting 20 plants and getting 2 rope reeds, you instead have one guy who takes a little longer, but produces more usable plant material.  Sometimes I've sustained a fort on herbalism alone for several years.  Once we get designations like "auto-collect any shrubs in this area" it'll be very easy to avoid farming.

Not much herbs or wood to gather on a glacier fort.

If you're in an area of particularly steep cliffs and you're unlucky with the wagon placement, you could end up with no wagon, which IIRC means no free wood on embark. So bring a rock and start there.

Someone recently posted a screenshot of an embark with no wagon.  It consisted of a flat area with some slopes down on the edges, and one little ramp near the middle.  Apparently, the wagon tried to place itself 1 level up, on this little 1x2 section, and failed to, so all the equipment was left laying about, even though there was plenty of empty space on the level right below.

I actually did that once. I was doing a bit of science, so I didn't need anything, and I figured, "Well, I might as well bring something, even if I'll never use it. How about cats?"
