The ship's armaments hit the shields directly above what you suppose might be their engines... and do nothing. The shields don't even react.
(GMs Note: I usually interpret rolls as a modifier to what SHOULD happen. Shooting spitballs at a tank isn't going to do anything, even if you get a 6. If you'd rolled high for the damage roll, I'd have had the commander panic and retreat because he's never seen a weapon that can actually damage the shields.)

And that, kids, is why you always close the door behind you when you go for a spacewalk, especially against guerrilla forces.
