CorsixTH: Open-source Theme Hospital clone
« on: March 23, 2011, 02:16:51 pm »

http://code.google.com/p/corsix-th/

This looks pretty neat, and they claim there's a new version, Beta 6, out tomorrow (three-month release schedule).

Much like some of the open-source X-Com clones, it needs a copy of the original game files to run.  And of course, linking to such things on this forum is strictly verboten, but I suspect that anyone who's a fan of the original Theme Hospital would already have it.

No multiplayer yet, but hey, for reviving a long-dead game this is pretty sweet.  Not being limited to the old maps, etc...

Sounds amazing, Theme Hospital was a cornerstone of my early childhood PS1 games and later on the PC too.

I loved the tongue slicing machine and that sound when you fire someone, it's just oh-so satisfying, it was surprisingly hard at times though.

I wouldn't mind giving this a go but unfortunately I don't own the discs anymore so I'll have to wait until I can find some, thanks for finding this though, it's going right on my "Games to remember list".

Ooh, I bet there'll be an option to disable the @#(@*&%@ RATS!!!

Seriously, maybe my version was bugged, but if I blocked a rathole by shoving furniture in front of it, rats still came out of there even though the hole disappeared.  There were infinite, unstoppable rats.  Hunting them down was...well, not always the most interesting minigame.

I completely forgot about the rats!

However I was quite young and inexperienced in hospital procedure and basic hygiene when I first played it on the PS1, so I let them just run about and went out of my way not to block the holes.  :D

Best part of the game IMO.

There's a demo linked right on the page for it, says it only needs the files from that.

..you need the full game to play the full game..
Very fun though.

Well there's a map editor included, but since I "found" a copy of the full game I'll be able to play the whole thing.

This sounds great. Theme Hospital is one of my favorite games. I'm definitely going to look for my original CD and play this. Thanks for mentioning it.
