ISTENDIL'S PLAN THWARTED BY PURITY-FOLLOWING SEAGULLS!

Today, Aabahran breathes a sigh of relief as a plan of large-scale
terrorism due to strike all three city-states of Aabahran is foiled
by a swarm of seagulls.

The Knights of the Crown were behind the terror-scheme. The Knights,
who I have covered extensively in previous editions of The Underworld
(back issues available for a small fee) are actually a secretive death
cult that worship The Dark One, Anume. The plan was that three groups
consisting of two of these Death-Knights would begin laying waste to
the citizens of the cities, effectively splitting Tribunal response
into three and creating little resistence for the terror units. As
the units met in Haon Dor, receiving their final pre-mission brief
from Sir Istendil, their Undead leader, all hell broke loose.

"It were MAGICK!" one on-looker reports. "One minute, I see dese Death
Knights readyin' for fightin', then suddenly all dese SEAGULLS just
come flyin' down, all glowin' and stuff, and just COVER Istendil in
der excrement!"

These however, ladies and gentlemen, were not just any seagul faeces.
It is well known that those imbued with the essence of purity utilise
defecation as a means of expelling the build up of "white energy" and
the Undead leader himself was doused in nothing less than harmful
amounts of the stuff. The leader was taken away writhing and screaming,
but all that could be heard was the din of cackling seagulls as they
flew off back into the sky, their mission complete.

I'm here to try and muster new players for a game I've loved and played for nearly ten years.  Hopefully managing to allow some people new to muds to begin their honeymood period with us and create a few life long addicts.

Aabahran: The Forsaken Lands is a free, no pay to play or pay for perks, pvp text based game, a mud, with ENFORCED RP.   http://theforsakenlands.org/

Graphics, cutting edge graphics, are the bane of solid gameplay and game mechanics.  If it can't be done to look good, if it can't be done with minimal effort or if it's not worth the effort to produce the graphics of you doing it, you generally can't do it.

In a text based game you can climb a tree to pick an apple and then hold it in your hands.  In a text based game you can rp cutting the finger from a god.  The people you play with always feel like something more than a picture made of pixels and the best pvp you can experience will always be on text based games.  With us pvp is far more detailed than spam <command>, an act that'll not only get you killed but leave you looking like a newb.  Because with us, you WON'T HAVE TO LEVEL GRIND for the life of your character.

Grab a client; gmud, zmud or whatever goes well with macs.  Then come explore the experience.  If you need help, if you want help in any way, just email my account here and I'll do everything I can and devote as much time as I possibly can to ease the learning curve.  peace :o

Good enough. Escaped lunatics advertising games in this forum for whatever reason is generally frowned upon.

well then, let's discuss it.  what do you look for in a multiplayer game.  it's admittedly not for everyone.  it's pk intense but there's good rp.  pk is more then just spam commands

Alright, fair enough.
1) I undestand it's PK intense but is there a well written and lengthy "campaign" style part of game with lots of PVE (optionally co-op PVE)? Or at least much incentive to play a PVE style part of the game for a good long while?
2) Is it rp-enforced or just rp-recommended?
EDIT:
3) Are there a lot of playable races/classes/otherwise options for character customization outside of RPing your character?

1. pve, no.  It is necessary to kill mobs to re-equip your char and quite often to retrieve the best items it is necessary to gather other people for this.  But as far as campaign style pve that's not there.  There are factions you can join though that flesh out your rp and skills that quite often turn into campaigns with your factions vs rivaling factions.  But that goes back to pvp.  Nearly every faction has an opposite rival faction that they'll always be at war with but treaties and vandettas are possible to change their relations with other normally indifferent factions.
2. rp is enforced.  might be overlooked if you break on accident at a lower level.  But once higher it's expected that even if you don't go out of your way to rp that you stay ic.  Going out of character even briefly on a quest class/race, that requires rp to get, will likely get you banned.
3. About two dozen each of races and class, with several of the classes having path options to further vary them.  Also there's the factions previously mentioned which also add skills in addition to rp direction.

Going back to question one though, there's really not alot of focus on killing mobs past gaining gear or getting to the level cap of 50, which usually only takes about fifty hours to get to and be fully trained.

in truth, i'm open too to suggestions of other multiplayer games people play, so i'll put down what i look for

1. I despise level grinding, hate having to devote countless hours just to get near the top and then countless more just to stay there, I'd rather have more person to person interaction that slugging way against mobs.
2. I like the competition of pvp, use to be in truth I was a griefer, but now it's just more stimulating and entertaining to compete against other people.
3. The game to have a sense of community, it's a big plus, when there's a feeling of inclusion and cohesiveness among the players.
4. For muds, i hate largely open areas and ones where the paths seem to lead in impossible ways, id you head south and wind up back north, they're just too hard to memorize and fight in.
5. Options and balance, everyone loves the options too but I like there to be balance between the classes and for classes to have more than one option, not just slash and hack or spam fireball.
